The second week in a two week unit focusing on the film “The Alchemist’s Letter”. Each lesson provides guided writing opportunities to describe a scene and explore character’s emotions. This links to the first week already available on TES in my shop where children explore two of the character’s feelings and how the machine works. Aimed at Year 5 but can easily be used with a Year 6 class also.

This is a single lesson on PowerPoint in the Expressing Faith Unit of RE about Mandalas and exploring their use in Buddhism. Focuses on the construction and deconstruction of mandalas, as well as the spiritual importance they play within the religion of Buddhism. With a three-way differentiated activity at the end of the PowerPoint, pupils are encouraged to use the time to meditate and create their own mandalas to express their inner thoughts and feelings.

A PowerPoint lesson that explores the history of Christmas, the question "Should Christmas only be celebrated by Christians?" as a debate opener and opportunity for peer to peer discussion as well as a three-way differentiated activity at the end of the PowerPoint for children to write their arguments and present them to the class. A set of 4 lessons on PowerPoint around free verse poetry based on the topic of Space. Writing stimulus used is “The sea of tranquility” by Mark Haddon and Christian Birmingham (images of the story included). 3 way differentiation included as well as Grammar warm up activities.

A lesson on the location of gold around the world, children will need to use atlases. Includes video on the mining of gold and the 10 biggest countries for gold production. Works well with twinkl’s maps of the world (included on one slide) but can be used with own maps. Also links well with the Cornerstones curriculum and Year 5 topic of “Alchemy Island”.

Week 1 of a 2 week unit on Fantasy Narrative writing for Upper KS2. Designed with different activities each lesson to build writing with modelled examples to structure writing. Week 2 coming soon!

A 7 lesson unit on mystery story writing linked to Ancient Egypt. Starts with setting descriptions, story planning, build up and action sequence with opportunities to edit and redraft throughout. Children can then free write their own endings to show a development in their writing from heavily scaffolded, removing some support in the middle of their stories to get a totally independant ending.

A brief assembly aimed at KS2 and KS3 about failing and how we need to fail in order to achieve. Can link to growth mindsets.

A set of 5 lessons all about Paris that focuses on human geography, tourism and map skills as well as opportunity to assess and use extended writing. Aimed at an upper key stage 2 class. Many lessons could be broken into two to extend over a longer period. Builds on a free mini scheme from PlanBee (the unit is free to download) but adapted to extend knowledge and support pupil’s understanding further at an older age. Links very well to Cornerstones Curriculum - ‘Gallery Rebels’.
