Three treasure hunt activities on addition, subtraction and a mix of the two that engage pupils and add variety to lessons. Pupils can complete the task individually or in pairs. The cards should be cut out and stuck around the wall of the classroom. Pupils go and stand near one of the cards (in a pair or individually) - possibly whiteboards should be given to them for working out - and they start with that card. When they answer the question on the card they go and find the card that has that answer on, making a note of the order of the cards (the card numbers are at the bottom of the cards). When they get round to the card they started at, pupils are done and come to you to check their work. The correct order is included in the documents so you can see quickly where any mistakes have been made. Blank answer sheets are also included for pupils to write down the card numbers.

Engaging code breaker activity in which pupils work out the decimal multiplication questions for each letter and decode the hidden joke. Answers sheet included. The joke should read "What is a butterfly's favourite subject? Mothematics!"

Complete lesson plan for written multiplication using grid method. This plan was designed for lower ability pupils so there is some extra scaffolding included that may be deleted for higher attaining pupils. There are differentiated questions in the powerpoint, but I have included a worksheet and codebreaker activity as alternatives for consolidation should you wish to use them. The codebreaker should read “How do you make seven an even number? Take the S out!” when completed.

Complete lesson on teaching pupils to take readings from scales (including decimals), with both Powerpoint and SMART Notebook versions. Fully differentiated worksheet included, with a slide of extra challenging questions to display on the board and stretch the upper end of the class. Blockbusters game included as an alternative activity. I have broken down the process of reading the scales quite a lot, you may wish to delete that part from the example slides and set it out yourself if you have your own preferred way of teaching it. I would also recommend checking to see if the starter questions need adjusting for your class, though I have tried to keep them quite generalised.

Fun and engaging bingo activity on finding the mode of a dataset for use in the classroom to consolidate learning. Printable grids included for pupils to use. Questions include those with no mode or multiple modes and are easily rearranged for reuse.

A differentiated worksheet for place value, broken into three sections. In the red section pupils need to complete a table by either converting the given number into words or words into figures. In the amber section pupils need to write down the value of an underlined digit. The green section contains some GCSE style questions based around digits on cards.

A fun and engaging codebreaker activity in which pupils must evaluate calculations using the order of operations in order to crack the code and reveal the joke. Ideal for consolidating skills, pupils will race to complete this task and delight in telling you how terrible the joke is. Answers are included, as is the original Publisher file to allow for easy editing should you wish to do so. Joke should read once completed: “What did one toilet say to the other? You look a bit flushed!”

Double sided worksheet with 24 straight line graphs for pupils to write down the equation of. ranging from positive gradients to negative, and then fractional gradients. EDIT: I recently did a lesson on this topic with some higher set year 11’s, so have produced a second, harder sheet that includes axes with different scales, forcing pupils to use “change in y/change in x” to find gradient instead of just going one across and counting squares. The new sheet is only one sided, but is more suitable for higher attaining pupils. Answers now included.

Differentiated written addition worksheet designed for KS2 or low attaining KS3 pupils. The questions come in three levels - Red (plain addition building up to carrying), Amber (Carrying leading up to pupils setting up the columns themselves) and Green (Pupils set up the columns, includes some decimal addition). There is also an extra GCSE style problem solving functional maths question to challenge the higher attaining pupils.

This double sided worksheet is aimed at lower ability pupils - it starts with some fairly simple y = x + 1 graphs etc. before ramping up the difficulty to x + y = 4 and some lines with negative gradients. Also, the tables of values themselves use x values from 1 to 5, as the class I used this with were taught to fill in tables of values in the same way that they would generate a sequence (eg for y = 2x + 1: write out the 2 times table and add 1 to each number).

One focuses on addition and subtraction, another on multiplication and division, while the last has a mix of all four with some BIDMAS questions thrown in for good measure that can really catch them out if they aren't concentrating! Editable to change the numbers and answers if you want to use it with lower or higher ability pupils.
