There are a full range of question types; including looking and thinking about historical sources and a more artistic responses to written descriptions. Each 'mat' can be photocopied and stuck into books at the beginning of the area of study to demonstrate to observers where your learning is going and allow students to know exactly where they are on their 'learning journey'. Two activities that encourage historical and independent thinking about slave resistance - one for pupils to think from a slave perspective - the second to encourage the use of questions. The activity based on developing pupil questioning could also be used as a way to begin looking at sources and to demonstrate how a historian uses questions to help form conclusions. Further activities could include looking at a variety of differentiated sources on slave life on the plantations. Use within the KS3 study of the Atlantic slave trade as a method to start looking at slave resistance and rebellion in more depth. A power point to introduce some of the ideas and medical practices that took place during the Golden Age of Islam. Information includes an introduction into some of the types of surgery carried out in Islamic hospitals and the ideas of hygiene advocated by Razes. There is an introduction too into the development of pharmacies and hospitals. It is intended as an introduction and a spark into some of the advances made in Baghdad at the time and ends with a general question into what conclusions can be made. It should be used in conjunction with closer studies into Baghdad hospitals, Islamic pharmacies and medical ideas.
