GCSE Music Harmony and Tonality Bundle

6 Resources
A complete Harmony and Tonality Theory and Listening Programme of Study appropriate for any GCSE Music course. This is an in-depth and fully resourced Programme of Study comprising six whole topics which will help your students to gain an excellent working knowledge of harmony and tonality at this level. It is recommended that the topics are taught in the following order: (1) Chords and Cadences; (2) Major and Minor Scales; (3) Key Relations and the Circle of 5ths; (4) Modulation and Pivot Chords; (5) Modes and Pop Chords; (6) Dominant 7ths in Practice. If you are teaching a 3-year KS 4 Programme, I would advise going no further than Topic 3 during Year 9, but all topics can be taught in Year 10 with plenty of time to develop and explore skills in Year 11. All resources have been tried and tested in the classroom with excellent results - particularly in music composition. I take great care over my resources and I believe them to be of the very highest quality in terms of content, usability, and presentation. I really hope that you will enjoy my resources and find them useful. I pride myself on the quality of the resources that I publish, and I welcome feedback and enquiries from all of my colleague-customers across the world. Music History Activities COMPOSERS

(0)
Perfect for Year 7-9 Key Stage 3 Music students, and especially cover lessons. There are up to 6 hours of content in this download pack, which focuses on two composers from each of the 6 musical eras of the Western Classical Tradition! The activities build literacy skills in addition to broadening general musical knowledge. Answers for the activities are provided in booklets and are also included on a handy PowerPoint, so that students can mark their own work, allowing you to simply moderate. Full delivery instructions with suggested extension tasks are also included. There are 18 worksheets in this resource, divided up into 6 sets of 3 – one set for each of the 6 musical eras of the Western Classical Tradition. In each set, there are 2 x 250-word composer biographies with an attached reading and comprehension task, and a 25-statement True or False activity based on the composer biographies for each era. Each set conveniently makes up a complete 1-hour lesson. While students complete the reading and comprehension activities for each composer, there are YouTube links provided for the music of each respective composer, giving students a context and allowing them to record their observations and opinions for a class discussion at the end of the activity. The links are all checked and are valid as of 28th October 2020. There is also a teacher handout with full instructions as to how to run the Scheme of Work and whole individual lessons within it, including some great ideas for extending the learning. Another great thing about this resource is that it is absolutely perfect for a supply teacher who has no specialist musical knowledge at all. I really hope that you will enjoy my resources and find them useful. I pride myself on the quality of my resources and I welcome feedback and enquiries from my colleague-customers from all over the world at rainynightmusic@hotmail.com. Classical Music Key Stage 3 Project

(0)
A complete Program of Study for Classical Music for Key Stage 3, Years 7 to 9. Up to 4 hours of activities, comprehensively resourced, fully supported, and beautifully presented. This project deals first with key characteristics of Classical Music, and then moves on to instruments of the era. Listening and written tasks are incorporated, here. There is a focus on homophonic texture, contrasting themes, Alberti Bass, and Sonata Structure. There are written notation activities at an appropriate level to further consolidate and extend this learning. The central performance task revolves around an original string quartet, composed by myself, and guidance relating to dynamics and articulation – again, at an appropriate level – is inherent within the worksheet and teacher PowerPoint support, which also includes a 10-point success criteria against which students may grade themselves. Specifically, in this download pack, you will receive the following: 1 x 20-clue Word Search Activity with full answers, introducing all key words associated with this Classical Music Project (Literacy). 1 x 12-page worksheet with 10 separate tasks covering the whole range of listening, theory, and performing skills, plus contextual and historical knowledge of Classical Music and the Classical Era. 1 x 4-minute annotated video demonstrating the 4 main characteristics of Classical Music with plenty of incidental learning embedded. 1 x 23-Slide PowerPoint which is beautifully presented and animated with Objectives, every single task ‘chunked’ for easy content delivery, Answers for worksheet tasks, extension tasks explained, and much more including full instructions on each slide, constituting a comprehensive project plan. 1 x Main Performance Task focusing on group performance in the form of a 1-minute-long String Quartet in Variation form (composed by myself). 36 x (short) MP3 files modelling the individual parts, the main task, extension tasks, and key learning. 1 x ‘Body-Snatching’ fact sheet, focusing on the story of Haydn’s Head, its link to medical research and the ethics surrounding the practice then and now, in context. (PSHCE) 1 x 15-clue Crossword Activity with full answers that can be used for homework, revision, or even testing of key learning (Numeracy). 1 x 3800+ word annotated Teacher Guidance plan to the entire project. As always, I take great care to ensure my resources are of the highest quality – both in content and in presentation – and I wholeheartedly recommend them to both you and your students. I welcome feedback and enquiries from my colleague-customers all over the world, and I can be contacted directly at rainynightmusic@hotmail.com. Music Worksheets Rhythm and Metre Key Stage 4

(0)
This resource comprises 10 worksheets designed to secure, revise, and test knowledge of Rhythm and Metre. Aimed at Key Stage 4 Students, each worksheet should take around 35-40 minutes to complete, making them perfect on an individual basis for homework tasks, tests, distance-learning, revision activities, and collectively, as full cover lessons suitable for a supply teacher. If you use it for the latter, you needn’t worry about coming back to a huge pile of marking because full answers and a detailed teacher guide are also included in this resource pack, so students can mark and correct their own work, and teachers (or parents) with limited specialist subject knowledge are well supported. Specifically, the worksheets incorporate the following types of activity: adding beams in simple and compound metres, focusing particularly on rules regarding crossing the centre of the bar; re-writing 4-bar rhythms using tied notes to correct errors in note grouping and placement in both simple and compound metres; re-writing 4-bar rhythms using the correct rests to correct errors in rest grouping and placement in both simple and compound metres; adding barlines to complex rhythms which include double-dotted notes and rests in both simple and compound time; re-writing short 4-bar rhythms which contain a variety of errors taken from all topics in Worksheets 1 to 8 (beams, tied notes, rests, double-dotted notes and rests). In total, there are 110 in-depth questions spread across 10 high-quality worksheets – all of which include helpful, relevant information and guidance for the students, and should keep them busy for well over four hours. There is also a full teacher guide with suggested solutions for common problems, which will help you to support the learning in whatever environment you find yourself teaching. I take great care to ensure my resources are of the highest quality – both in content and in presentation – and I wholeheartedly recommend them to both you and your students. I welcome feedback and enquiries from my colleague-customers all over the world, and I can be contacted directly at rainynightmusic@hotmail.com. I would be delighted to hear from you, and I thank you for considering this resource for your classroom or home.

GCSE Music Terminology Puzzles TIMBRE

(0)
This pack is one of six in a series from Rainy Night Music which covers over 350 key words, terms, and instruments listed as Language for Learning on all new UK GCSE Music syllabuses. There is more than a 90% crossover of key terminology between WJEC/ Eduqas, AQA, Edexcel and OCR, and this series covers them all. This particular pack deals with Articulation, Dynamics and FX. Specifically, the 7 key-word groupings for these activity sets are: Vocal Techniques & FX; Orchestral Techniques & FX; Guitar Techniques & FX; Studio Techniques and Devices; Studio Processes and FX; Volume Dynamics; Common Articulation Markings. For each topic stated, there are 8 key words (56 in total) which may form the basis of a theory and listening lesson, but will certainly link the words in a related and structured way - in much the same way MFL vocabulary is taught. Each topic has a word search designed to pre-teach the key words, a flash card template (for students to complete through independent research for homework) to pre-teach the definitions, a mix ‘n’ match activity to provide the actual definitions. Ideally, the actual theory and lesson will follow this to allow consolidation, and then the crossword activity serves as the revision activity. ALL activities have FULL answers provided with this download. However, there is a great deal of flexibility in how you use and get the most out of these activities – my personal recommendation would be to re-use the mix ‘n’ match activity to create an additional resource (where the terms are not separated from one another), and use it for Quiz-Quiz-Trade starters and plenaries in Year 11. I really hope that you will enjoy my resources and find them useful. I pride myself on the quality of the resources that I publish, and I welcome feedback and enquiries from all of my colleague-customers across the world. MUSIC BINGO Intervals

(0)
**A set of 3 tiered Music Bingo Games based on musical intervals. Level 1 would be suitable for beginners to reading music; Level 2 would be suitable for slightly more experienced readers; Level 3 for more confident students. ** Each of the 3 Bingo Games in this set has 15 different intervals, presented harmonically (stacked), rather than melodically (linear). Each game has 12 unique playing cards, which can very realistically be doubled up for a class of 24 students. Each game also has a master calling card containing 2 clues (one easier, one more difficult) to describe each of the 15 intervals on the calling card. Each unique playing card has a total of 9 of the 15 intervals on it. This set of 3 is specifically designed to facilitate and accommodate progress, working really well as both a fun revision tool and a general learning tool. The Level 1 game is suitable for beginners, being based primarily on major, minor, and perfect intervals with no accidentals at all. The intervals are all presented in the treble clef. The Level 2 game is suitable for slightly more experienced musicians, being based primarily on major, minor, and perfect intervals using accidentals found in major and minor keys up to 4 sharps and flats. The intervals are presented in treble clef. The Level 3 game is suitable for more confident musicians, being based primarily on augmented and diminished unisons, octaves, 4ths and 5ths – simple and compound – and major and minor 9ths and 10ths. Additionally, these cards are also presented in the bass clef, and have more accidentals than those in Level 2. This set is available as part of a 6-pack Bingo Bundle, here: [https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/music-bingo-bundle-12178022]. I really hope that you will enjoy my resources and find them useful. HSC Music 2 Stage 6 Beethoven 5th Symphony Movement 1 Sibelius Scores for Analysis

HSC Music 2 Stage 6 Beethoven 5th Symphony Movement 1 Sibelius Scores for Analysis

(0)
This movement is ideal for study as part of the Stage 6 Music 2 HSC Program. As a full first movement from a Classical Symphony, it fits into the mandatory area of study Western Music 1600-1900. A Sibelius score is an exceptionally powerful tool to have for analysing chords, themes, motives, and much more, at the click of a button. This Sibelius score – which comes in 10 different versions in this download pack – is a great resource for both teachers and students. With the later versions of these scores, you can isolate individual parts to show melodic lines and harmonies more clearly, you can use the chord analysis and ‘find motive’ functions which can make analysis an absolute breeze. Another clear advantage of having a Sibelius Score in addition to a paper one is that it is an invaluable aid to improve score-reading: the playback line runs along with the music and students can better see what is happening. Certainly, my students all benefited from Sibelius scores for their set works – as painstaking as it was for me to type it all in! A complete list of versions included in this download pack is as follows: Sibelius 7.5; Sibelius 7; Sibelius 7 First; Sibelius 6; Sibelius 6 Student; Sibelius 6 First; Sibelius 5; Sibelius 5 Student; Sibelius 5 First; Sibelius 4. If you would like an earlier version, please just email me, and I’ll add it to the resource pack. Also included in the pack is a high-quality soundcard MP3 extraction of the full score for you to use in the classroom. I really hope that you will enjoy my resources and find them useful. I pride myself on the quality of the resources that I publish, and I welcome feedback and enquiries from all of my colleague-customers across the world. Halloween Music Worksheets Key Stage 3

(0)
This is a whole lot of Halloween fun for your music students! Depending upon ability and age group, there is enough in this pack to keep students occupied and engaged for 1 or 2 whole 1-hour lessons, making it perfect for Halloween Week! It’s aimed at Years 6 to 8, but it can work with any students who have a basic knowledge of music notation. Halloween is coming, and a prestigious Witches Coven are making their annual arrangements to mark the occasion! There are ghosts, ghouls, potions, pumpkins, costumes and… a cat! A cat called Teasel who, for whatever reason, is causing absolute chaos and getting in the way of the Coven’s preparations for the big day! Students are invited to unravel Teasel’s mischief, restoring potions, price tags, playlists, and much more, in order to allow Witches Clara, Wendy, and Abigail to complete their well-rehearsed preparations, and ultimately to save Halloween! It’s a whole lot of fun and students love it – and with full answers and basic guidance provided, you’ll love it too! In the process of completing these activities, students get to use their skills in, and knowledge of, treble and bass staff notation, note durations, instruments, composers, and musical symbols – PLUS there’s elements of numeracy, literacy, and history for some great blended learning during this spooky period. I am extremely proud of all my resources and I endeavour to publish work of only the highest quality for you. I greatly value feedback, suggestions, and enquiries from all of my colleague-customers around the world, and I invite you to contact me by email at rainynightmusic@hotmail.com should you wish to ask me anything about my work. GCSE Music HAYDN and the SYMPHONY

GCSE Music HAYDN and the SYMPHONY

(0)
There is at least 2 hours of resources, here - 1 or 2 lesson’s worth depending on how long your lessons are. This project works best when you - the teacher - is in the classroom, but it can be used as a cover lesson provided computer access is available. This download included two 2-page ‘quizes’ with two 2-page detailed answers, and a PowerPoint presentation with Objectives, Outcomes, and task explanations (with approximate timings). The way that I teach this lesson is to briefly model independent learning: how to ask Google the ‘right’ question in a number of different ways in order to find out the answer to a question; how to persist and be prepared to read information that may be good, but ultimately not answer the question you asked. It teaches students ‘how’ to learn using the internet as a research tool - you are there to guide their choices, differentiating between good and bad information. The beauty of this lesson/ lessons is that students always end up learning loads of things that you didn’t set out to teach them - but you have a comprehensive list of answers including all the key information that they need to know. The best way to do this, I find, is to have two or three separate teams competing to gain the highest scores on the quizes - I usually reward winners with chocolate and House Points for extra motivation! Student feedback on this is always positive - especially the story about Haydn’s head, which I am reliably informed is both “gross” and “funny” - certainly memorable! I hope you enjoy the resources and thank you for purchasing the Rainy Night Music brand.

HSC Music 2 Stage 6 Bach Brandenburg Concerto No.2 Movement 1 Sibelius Scores for Analysis

(0)
This movement is ideal for study as part of the Stage 6 Music 2 HSC Program. As a full first movement from a Barqoue Concerto Grosso, it fits into the mandatory area of study Western Music 1600-1900. A Sibelius score is an exceptionally powerful tool to have for analysing chords, themes, motives, and much more, at the click of a button. There are clear advantages of having a Sibelius score as a study aid. With the later versions of these scores, you can isolate individual parts to show melodic lines and harmonies more clearly, you can use the chord analysis and ‘find motive’ functions making analysis quicker and easier – and there are several other analysis plug-ins that Sibelius offer, making your life much easier. Another clear advantage of having a Sibelius Score in addition to a paper one is that it is an invaluable aid to improve score-reading: the playback line runs along with the music and students can better see what is happening. Certainly, my students all benefited from Sibelius scores for their set works. Ideal for Year 7 to 9, and an excellent choice to both celebrate and learn about Greek Music, this project is fully resourced with enough activities for up to 3 hours of fun-packed, exciting, quality learning. This project deals first with styles of Greek Music, and then moves onto Greek instruments. Listening and written tasks are incorporated, here. There is a focus on the characteristics of the Hasapiko style, including use of the Ionian mode with added chromatic notes, melody in 6ths, dotted rhythms, off-beat chords, and a couple of written notation activities further consolidate this learning. The main task follows, which is a 4-part Hasapiko Dance composed by myself: Bass; Chords (notated for both keyboard and guitar); Melody Line; Harmony Line. Students are taken through the learning of each part, and then set to task on a group performance. Extension tasks explore the addition of articulation and tempo changes, and also a composition task, using their knowledge of the characteristics of the style to write a short introduction to the main task.
