This minimalism SOW is best delivered to either a year 8 or 9 class with some prior knowledge of chords, rhythm and notation. It walks though what the basic concept of minimalist music is and how minimalist music is constructed. Pupils have activities on performing clapping music by Steve Reich and composing a minimalist composition based on In C by Terry Riley. The final compositional task is designed to test pupils problem solving and notation abilities and is centered around the idea of metamorphosis in music. The workbook is designed to be printed on one A3 sheet of paper then folded by pupils to make a booklet. If changes are needed on the workbooks the handwritten sans font will need to be added to your computer, if is available here: https://www.dafont.com/handwritten-sans.font Simply download the file then open the ttf file and click install. if no changes are needed then I suggest printing the PDF on A4 then using your printers copy function to turn into a A3 booklet
This Ukulele SOW is targeted towards a class of year 8 pupils. It goes through in detail the structure of the instrument, how to read chords symbols and ukulele Tab all of which are transferable skills onto other stringed instruments such as guitars. A full class set of ukuleles is needed however which may cause issues, but there are charities in most areas which can lend class sets of ukuleles. For best results the workbook needs to be printed as an A3 booklet and with a stapled binding, edits can be made using the word document version of the workbook.
