Simple experiment you could pull off in one lesson. Good opportunity to introduce independent/dependent and control variables. How many “drops” will the penny hold? Let’s find out!

Y9 science investigation - Bob's bricks

This investigation is structured across 6 lessons and is probably best for a mid to low attaining group. The idea is they investigate how the % of sand to cement in “Bob’s bricks” (other builders are available!) affect the strengths of the bricks. It’s an opportunity to do a full investigation as well as a bit of background research if you like. Easy to adapt if necessary but is a good trawl through the scientific method!

Simple lesson to remind students about the wonders of the titration method. A good reminder from GCSE moving onto more sophisticated work at AS level.
