#### Year 1 - Bar model - Counting on.

This resource combines word problems with the use of bar models to help with counting on from a given number. Bar models are really useful in helping children understand the concept of having one amount and counting on to reach another amount.

This resource can we used for year 1 children when teaching the concept of adding by making 10.

#### To subtract (not crossing 10) - Year 1

This resources aids in children’s understand of subtracting without crossing 10. The children will need to use their problem solving skills to read a word problem and then use their reasoning skills to show this subtraction with the use of a tens frame, part whole model and a number sentence.

#### To subtract (Crossing 10) - Year 1

This resources helps children with the understanding of subtraction and crossing 10. The use of Dienes helps with the understanding that when we cross 10 the dienes stick will change into ones. On this resource the children will need to draw their own dienes as well as using writing their own number sentence.

#### Comparing number sentences (Tens frames) - Year 1

This resource helping in comparing number sentences in an pictorial way. A good stepping stone between the use of a tens frame and a more abstract method. To compete this sheet the children must write the correct number sentence under the tens frame which will allow them to then compare the 2 sentences with the use of an equality symbol.

This resources aids the teaching of counting forwards and backwards within 20 with the use of varied fluency. This also teaches the children to check carefully what a question is asking them to do. As they will need co comprehend if they are required to count forwards or backwards.
