This unit of work is used to teach history of nursing to year 1 and 2 children. Florence Nightingale Mary Seacole Edith Cavell Throughout this unit children will study the key events of the lives of the famous nurses. Reading will be used as a focus, where children will read the text thoroughly to help them understand the topic. Lesson Structure Retrieval practice Vocabulary check (introducing new vocab) Partner talk (recap from previous lesson) Reading Task Partner Talk Solo Task The reading task begins with teacher modelling followed by paired reading at least twice per session. Lesson 1 - What is nursing Lesson 2 - Florence Nightingale Lesson 3 - Mary Seacole Lesson 4 - Edith Cavell Lesson 5 - Complete essay plan discussing similarities and differences of the nurses. Lesson 6 - Essay writing Lessons can be spread over more than one session where neccessary. Quiz to be completed at the end of unit.
