This document contains questions to help students familiarise themselves with reading a score. Questions are about keys, chords, returning themes, orchestration and more. These are the Teacher copies (i.e. questions and answers) but student copies can be made by creating a new document for the students. Feedback is most welcome - I’ve got questions for movements 2, 3 and the start of 4 to upload too.

This is an annotated .pdf of the .sib file (both attached) to help students understand how Minimalism compositions are constructed - texturally, melodically, harmonically and structurally, economy of ideas, exploitation of the medium - and being able to see key terms and to be able to learn them musically and not just a definition from a textbook! Helpful for creating achievable, challenging and measurable targets. Rather than saying 'I want to learn how to play the guitar', for example, you could change it to 'I want to learn how to play a C major scale without hesitation by the 10th of November' for example. A step by step guide of how to compose in the different styles of music. I have used only the following: Minimalism, African, Baroque/Classical/Romantic and Pop. Includes ways to get top marks for structure, developing an idea, exploitation of the medium as well as snippets of example scores. This is based on the previous Edexcel specification.
