Revision Technique: GCSE Geography

(0)
A lesson focussing on techniques for revision. Examples used are from the topics of: Resource Management, Rivers, Coasts and Tropical Storm Hazards, . I have written it for the AQA 9-1 GCSE, however I would assume that most, if not all of the ideas are on most specs. The lesson looks at memorising key words, mnemonics, use of pictures to jog memory, ways to summarise and revise processes, practice questions and mind mapping. Slightly more than a lesson’s worth, but you can select what activites your students require. Please note that there is some overlap betweent this lesson and the ‘Revision Technique: GCSE Rivers’ lesson.

Urban Challenges Revision GCSE AQA 9-1

(0)
A revision lesson that has a starter and a plenary based on urban challenges. The main activity is to complete an A3 revision sheet on the 2 case studies for this topic and to show how ideas from each section work together. I’ve also included a complete version of each revision sheet for the case studies that we taught in our school, which were Lagos and Manchester, however the lesson is fully usable if these aren’t your case studies. Please check out my other revision lessons and leave feedback if you like the lesson!

Tourism in Brazil- Design a Holiday

(0)
A lesson which introduces different types of tourism and some key words for pupils. Pupils have to select one holiday maker from the options and design the best holiday to Brazil for them, choosing appropriate flights, accommodation and an itinerary. This lesson doesn't require any IT as information sheets are included in the pack, making it ideal for a pupil led, research lesson where IT facilities are not available for pupils. It's aimed at a year 8 class, but could be used for year 7s and year 9s as well. A differentiated version of the proposal sheet is included and also some stickers where pupils can peer assess each other's work in an engaging way.

Origninally designed for a high ability year 8 class, it could also be used to introduce extreme weather in the UK to GCSE classes for the AQA spec. This lesson is designed for Storm Doris, but is easily adaptable to a different case study if needed. Pupils will have to classify the effects of the storm and work to try and understand the causes from a card sort.

This is a 33 mark end of unit assessment on the topic of ‘The Challenge of Natural Hazards’. There are questions on Climate Change, UK Extreme Weather, Tropical Storms and Tectonic Hazards. The Paper 1 GCSE exam, ‘Living with the Physical Environment’ will test this topic in 33 marks, hence the length of the test. I have also written a detailed mark scheme using a similar format to AQA, so this can be used in departments or with students to grade and analyse the assessments.

AQA Geography GCSE Paper 3 Pre-Release Revision 6 and 9 Mark Questions

This lesson is designed as a recap/revision lesson prior to the Paper 3 exam. It is to help prepare students with 6 and 9 mark questions for the first section of the paper which is based on the pre-release booklet, which this year, is on road building in the Peruvian Amazon. Pupils will brainstorm their own questions based on the structure of questions from last year’s exam. They will then look at some example questions and answers and at the mark scheme. There is also a 9 mark question for them to practise and a mark scheme to help facilitate this.

This is a skills lesson based on the country of Nigeria. It fits into the topics of ‘The Changing Economic World’ and ‘Geographical Skills’ for AQA GCSE. This should help them to understand these development indicators more clearly and be able to distinguish between Birth Rate and Fertility Rate. They will then create a choropleth map to show the variation in Birth Rate in different states of Nigeria. They will also complete 2 scatter graphs (axes are provided) to show the relationship between Birth Rate and GDP per capita and Birth Rate and Fertility Rate. There are then some exam style questions to help them understand the data and analyse it. Suggested answers are also provided. All worksheets are ‘hidden slides’ on the Powerpoint so that it can be saved as one file.

There are practice questions for pupils to work through, after group discussion.
