Letter from Mr Tumnus to class

(0)
An editable letter from Mr Tunmas, the character from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S.Lewis. (Spaces available to fill in the date, class name and and school name). The letter addresses the children, tells them a little about life in Narnia and asks questions to the children. The idea is that the children will practise their letter-writing skills (as well as punctuation and grammar) in replying to the letter. The letter is differentiated 3 ways (HA/MA/LA).

Word of the Day - Part 3

'Writing like a writer' is a set of Powerpoint slides, each featuring a new word of the day. The purpose of this resource is to broaden the children's vocabulary and is aimed at KS2/lower KS3. The document displays the word, definition and example as well as a short writing task and there are 30 slides (enough for 6 weeks if used daily). The tasks are designed to be creative writing opportunities and so are very varied in theme! The word of the day does not necessarily 'fit' with the writing task, but as the children build up their vocabulary bank they should be able to use previous words to enhance their short piece of writing. This activity is designed to take about 10 minutes, and so can be used as a starter or daily activity during an allocated slot, e.g. register time. The way I have used this in the past is: - introduce the word, children repeat it aloud a few times - explain the definition and read through the example - children write down the word and the meaning in a vocabulary book - children complete the writing task, trying to use the new word or one of the previous words. A further 2 Powerpoints will be available soon covering the other areas in the SPAG curriculum, including a final revision set at the end. PLEASE NOTE: Some slides have been duplicated from Powerpoint 1 for revision purposes and the lower price reflects this.
