Bright IB PYP Learner Profile and Attitudes Bunting Display

(0)
These banners or bunting are a splash of bright colour for your IB PYP classroom. They are easy to assemble and contain all of the IB Attitudes and the Learner Profile. Use them to hang or to pin as a beautiful wall display. The kid friendly descriptions of each profile trait and attitude are a great reminder for the students. I designed these for my third grade class. The language is suitable for the upper elementary classes. Simply print, trim the corners off, fold the top over at the dotted line and staple each edge down below the dotted line to ensure leaving a space to loop the string through. Then, once they are all folded over and stapled, position the banners in the order you prefer and string them together, by pulling the string through each folded area. It is a good idea to attach the string to a pencil to make it easier to “thread” the string through each pennant. You may wish to laminate the pennants before you fold them over. They are asked to reflect on situations that require analysing, synthesising, categorising and evaluating, present doubt, possible antagonism, confidence issues and other difficulties. As you help the children with these thinking skills in a safe, familiar environment, it will greatly benefit them throughout school and particularly as they approach the IB PYP Exhibition. A great review activity! Differentiated for 3rd-5th grade. The orange cards are more challenging text. UK and USA spelling. Suggestions: Whole class - sitting in circle, each child will have a card to read aloud and then share their opinion. These can be discussed as you go around the circle. IB PYP Key Concepts Question Cards for Any Age Level

(0)
Conceptual learning begins by understanding how to think conceptually and to formulate concept-based questions. These cards are ideal for developing understanding of the IB PYP Key Concepts as well as helping children to focus their thinking and develop higher level questioning skills. The cards are differentiated for Grades K-2 and Grades 3-6. Each card contains sentence stems for guiding the children’s thinking and structuring their questioning as they formulate their own questions with anything. Easy to print and keep in a box or a ring on table groups. I prefer to give each child their own set that they keep in their desks for easy access to use at ANY time and for ANY subject. I have seen children referring to the cards for formative assessments and reflections, for setting goals, for developing their own lines of inquiries as well as within literacy and maths. Perfect for collaborative thinking activities and encouraging accountable talk within discussions. Enjoy! Susan PYPteachingtools.com

A Fun Figurative Language Scavenger Hunt

(0)
A Scavenger hunt is a great, get-em-out of their seats thinking activity. This printable literacy activity, focusing on the many different ways we can express ourselves, is perfect for assessing and reviewing the children’s ability to recognise and use figurative language. Through an active scavenger hunt, the kids have to find the form of expression in each text task card. But, also included in each card are examples of figurative language. They must find the figurative language too! Two rigorous and engaging activities rolled into one. This packet is aligned with 3rd and 4th grade CCSS ELA L.3 and RL4 and IB PYP. This is a great activity to use with literacy centres or whole class. I actually designed this for my 3rd graders as a lesson tying in with our unit of inquiry about How We Express Ourselves. I stuck the text cards around the room. The children then had to take their worksheet and clipboards and wander around, finding the form and figurative language in each card. The text is differentiated with the blue cards being more challenging than the pink, thus you can meet the needs of all readers. I do give the kids opportunity to choose for themselves whether they wish to challenge themselves with all of the cards or just stick to the pink cards. It was thoroughly engaging. There is also a follow up activity with longer text about American Indian folktales. The children had to identify the main idea and supporting details of this text as part of guided reading. This can also be used to find and identify the figurative language within this text, thus increasing the rigour once more. Included: Self-reflection/assessment sheet Differentiated quiz sheets: pink questions are less challenging than blue, I give the kids the choice. 12 differentiated scavenger hunt text cards. ( some contain more than one type of figurative language to increase the rigor) Differentiated text of American Indian folktale. Main idea and supporting detail worksheets Recording sheets for finding and identifying the figurative language from the story. 3 Picture sheets to use as provocation/background building, writing activity where the children have to create their own figurative language or as inspiration for descriptive writing. ( I used these for descriptive writing paragraphs and expository writing) I hope you enjoy this resource. Please take a look in my store for many more inquiry based activities.
