The focus is on analysing an advertising campaign. - Students will study a range of engaging media texts (provided) -Students will be able to learn, understand and apply some basic theories of audience. -Students will study an advertising campaign and be able to analyse texts using the key concepts. - Students will enjoy discussion and debate about a topical issue. Mark schemes are included which have been closely adapted from the AQA scheme but can easily be adjusted to OCR or WJEC as skills the same for this aspect of media studies. Suitable for AS students and able GCSE students. Also, excellent for revision of analysing media texts. So, what's the subject? I decided to capitalize on one of the most interesting events of modern times- the unlikely election of a certain Donald Trump to enthuse my media students. One of Trump's strengths during a protracted promotional campaign leading up to the election was an EXCELLENT media team who produced a number of exceedingly clever media texts to present Trump as the hero waiting in the wings to save the nation! Obviously, Trump is a contentious issue and a few students got quite sniffy initially but the focus is on the SUCCESS OF THIS MEDIA CAMPAIGN not Trump himself and once made clear, the students really enjoyed the lessons on this. Great debates ensued among my students- although many dislike Trump it is without question that the American media were against him and you need to start from this perspective. It is so interesting. There is a fun video which sums up (1) the media bias (2) how Trump crept into power and (3) how unexpected the victory was considering he began as a total joke at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQgq_R13V3s shorter version here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qzl8xjkgXCo The unit also involves analysing Hillary Clinton's ads as a basis for comparison. AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 2 Comparing Poems Student Friendly Mark Scheme

AQA GCSE English Literature Paper 2 Comparing Poems Student Friendly Mark Scheme

As we all know (as with all mark schemes) the AQA GCSE English Literature mark scheme is far from user friendly for students. This resource is a very detailed breakdown of the requirements for Band 6 on the poetry comparison question- it tells students exactly what they need to do for each of the six criteria using easily understandable language. It contains descriptors for the absolute top grade so that the students can easily get the sense of what an A* essay on poetry requires. Naturally this means the resource is aimed at middle to high ability students. Personally I use a traffic light system with these grids (green/ amber/ red dots next to each statement) but you may just want to highlight and you can adjust these to your own school's marking policy easily. Suitable for any assessed poetry work and will enable you to save a lot of time and stress as you won't need to write exhaustive comments and/ or can allow students to self assess. I have had excellent feedback on this so far and hope you find it as useful as I do. Please do browse my other resources and contact me directly with any queries. Happy marking :) DISCLAIMER: THESE ARE MY OWN PERSONAL INTERPRETATIONS OF THE MARK SCHEME. OFFICIAL MARK SCHEMES AVAILABLE AT AQA.ORG.UK
