Aerobic Respiration

Aerobic Respiration

Aerobic, Cellular, respiration. Mitochondria, Year 8 Year 9. GCSE content. Red Blood cells. Haemoglobin. Use in a middle-high ability KS3 class. Has some GCSE content. Makes clear that respiration is the generation of energy from glucose and oxygen. Rather than Breathing. Powerpoint.

DNA Transcription

DNA Transcription

KS5 level explanation of transcription. 1 lesson hour long observation lesson. Has highly detailed powerpoint slides with pupil questions incorporated and answers. A student notes sheet is provided that mirrors the powerpoint slides and gives them a record of key diagrams for added explanation. Several activities such as sequencing the RNA from the sense and anti-sense strand. Revision/ plenary games at the end using key terms from transcription and also the previous topic of DNA replication. Also included are some excellent worksheets on figuring out the sequence of DNA, mRNA, tRNA's etc. High level of scientific detail throughout.

DNA replication and the Semi-conservative model

DNA replication and the Semi-conservative model

Higher level Biology. As/A Level and IB higher level. Presentation with timed activities( timings on slides) on DNA structure, Hershey and chase experiment, Meselson and Stahl, Semi conservative replication. Animations and mini quizes. Accompanying worksheet with excellent diagrams to take notes with from the presentation. Definitions game as plenary- one of the pair faces away from the board without looking. Highly differentiated presentation. The other member describes the key word without using the word itself and the partner guesses.

Rate of Diffusion investigation

Rate of Diffusion investigation

Designed for an observation lesson- focusing particularly on differentiation. Presentation is simple in its instruction and is differentiated in terms of out come. Paired work and group work focus. Practical investigation worksheets with differentiation on maths ability which can be amended further depending on ability. Final part of the lesson focused on applying new knowledge of diffusion to rate of diffusion work sheet and within human gas exchange. Could be used for starter for the next lesson. 1 of the work sheets has extension activities. Pair taught, and then pupils relay the information they have used on their sheet to their partner. Keywords: Diffusion, surface area/ volume ratio, Rate, gases, liquids, gas exchange, concentration gradient, diffusion pathway.

Regulation of Blood glucose and secondary messenger system

Regulation of Blood glucose and secondary messenger system

Presentation for A-level / IB on the regulation of blood glucose with reference to the mechanism used for the key hormones. Student worksheet is A3 sheet that offers comprehensive information for self study period. Recommend getting pupils to study the secondary messenger system and text and highlight new key terms that they are unfamiliar with. Resource matches well with presentation slides. Once mechanisms of blood glucose regulation has been reviewed in detail, in conjunction with secondary messenger system, focus should shift to reading and interpreting the graph. Good activity is to get pupils to convert the graph back into a data table and indicate when hormones will be released. Keywords: Glucose, Glucagon, insulin, Glycogen, secondary messenger system, Cyclic AMP, Adenylate cyclase, Diabetes.

Enzyme revision powerpoint and work sheet KS3-KS4

Enzyme revision powerpoint and work sheet KS3-KS4

Keywords: enzymes, active sit, lock and key, substrate, rate, optimum temperature and PH. Combined a few resources and made additions for a complete overview of key points of enzymes revision. worksheet is for middle to high ability or can be teacher lead along with power point for lower ability students. Word fill in and Enzyme graph activity. Should aid Majority of year 9-10 students with end of unit revision sessions.

Convection- high level KS3-KS4

Convection- high level KS3-KS4

Presentation that was used for an observation lesson on convection with high ability year 8's. Starter is review of conduction with an animation. Use the sequence cards for the starter to ensure pupils have understood conduction before moving on with convection. Convection explained in terms of density and heat energy. Recommend mentioning gravity to higher ability pupils and how this effects rising and sinking of different density fluids. Recommend potassium permangenate demonstration in a convection tube. Number of differentiated and extension tasks in powerpoint for application of knowledge. Definitions of key words as a plenary. Key words: Convection, 'heat rises' , density, heat energy, vibrate, particles, potassium permangenate, conduction. Please leave a rating and any comments :) cheers

Homeostasis- Thermoregulation in endotherms

Homeostasis- Thermoregulation in endotherms

Powerpoint on the Thermoregulation in animals such as mammals, rather than in ectoterms (reptiles). Negative feedback loop is emphasized along with mechanisms for regulating temperature. Thermoregulation, negative feedback, hair erector muscles, sweat glands, evaporation, shivering, sphincter muscles, radiation. Targetting at AS/A2 level of detail. Could be used along with exam style questions and youtube clips (many available if searched) Please leave a ratings and any comments :) cheers
