I'm an experienced English teacher, AQA English Language examiner and sociolinguistics and literature fanatic. On a Saturday morning I am most likely to be found drinking tea from a Barbara Pym mug while enjoying my latest read. I studied for my BA at Leeds before heading to Liverpool to study an MA in Women's Writing and then later on, after a period of working for a reading charity, I undertook my PGCE. I live in Merseyside with my husband and two young children.

Two high quality model essays. One model essay that addresses the question 'To what extent can Stanhope be considered a hero?' and another that aims to 'Compare and Contrast the idea of coping strategies in “Journey’s End” by R.C Sheriff with “Birdsong” by Sebastian Faulks'. These are accompanied by a power point which looks at the production of Journey's End.

Acquisition of Literacy: Multi-Modal Literacy

(0)
A guide to key theories and concepts relating to multi-modal literacy with a range of activities. One activity does require the use of young children’s books that would need to be provided by a teacher or the students themselves. However, if this activity is inconvenient, it could easily be removed and there is still plenty of scope for a full hour’s lesson at least.

War Poetry Resources AS Literature

A collection of power points focused on war poems by Robert Graves, Ezra Pound, E. E. Cummings, Ted Hughes, Wilfred Owen and Philip Larkin with suggested activities. I have also included a high quality model essay comparing the representation of 'the loss of innocence' in Philip Larkin’s ‘MCMXIV' to E. E. Cummings' poem 'Olaf the glad and big’ and Wilfred Owen's 'Anthem for Doomed Youth'.
