I have a smashing set of these for sale in my shop - covering both papers. This set is just Paper 1 - Section A and can only be printed single-sided. Also a card matching exercise once laminated and cut up. Brilliant Christmas starter. Essentially 8 reading micro-mocks using famous Christmas songs. Mince pie week makes me cringe so I try to do workshops as a lot don’t turn up! Enjoy! And, if you like, consider purchasing my full set: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/aqa-8700-english-language-revision-card-set-12197052

THis is a ppt display which can also be printed. Use as an extension task to any session really but Paper 1 - Q5, more so. Great for drop-in sessions and making displays. Display the images on the big screen and use annotations or on-screen typing to work with a group and fill out an example. Print them in any size as they are great quality images… All images are taken from www.pixabay.com, where top quality images are free to use, even for commercial purposes… =-)

Train students to make rational predictions based on fictional expositions, in practice for Paper 1 - Question 3. Begin with a fictional exposition. Then note down all the symbolic ideas within. Following this, make a reasonable prediction about what might be foreshadowed by the writer. FInally, make as many comments as you can about the significance this has to the entire plot and how it will affect the reader via creating interest/intrigue. Foreshadowed clues to future events are in a great many novels…these, like Steinbeck’s famous novella, are often teleological. Writing about them can get some big marks for your students! =-) Take a look at my brief session on this - with another one of these sheets included: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/aqa-8700-english-language-paper-1-question-3-structure-foreshadowing-12124686

This has been created on Microsoft Whiteboard, which is an awesome online teaching tool. TES doesn’t support high-quality SVG images, so there is a link to download from Google - for which you need your own personal Google account. Zoom into the mid-section and the arrown guide to a sample answer, extra tasks/questions and contextual information.

I have a sample pair of these in my shop for a clear preview. The texts are pretty small on the paper 2 ones but people have generally found them okay to read. I’ve added a larger version of the Hair Paper 2 Micro Mock - just in case. These Micro mocks are editable and if you want to reword/change questions then Word documents are also available - after purchase via email. Just send a request to leckyletters@gmail.com with a screenshot of your receipt.

AQA 8700 GCSE English Language - AO2 The Pearl - Synthesising Connotations

A short session based on the text extract from Summer 2022. This is a simple session encouraging the synthesis of connotations and is designed to be paperless. It’s fully animated and has a short summary video at the start. Key word analysis is a feature and there’s a demo answer + 2 extra questions. There are a number of book covers, set as small images in the centre of white pages. I printed these laminated and passed them round/got the students into groups with drywipe pens. They can be used in a few ways.

THIS can be used as an introductory session or extension one. It has a set of 3 car ads embedded for the starter activity - Evaluate which car is best. Fully animated with the mark scheme and a set of 3 evaluation statements which are different in complexity. The text extract is from Helen Simpson’s ‘Constitutional’ - a little story called ‘The Door’. Use the exam-style tasks in class and as homework for further practice.
AQA 8700 GCSE English Language - Paper 1 Question 3 Structure

AQA 8700 GCSE English Language - Paper 1 Question 3 Structure

Linking to Paper 1, Question 3 - this worksheet has 4 narrative expositions and grids for students to organise their ideas. It pushes them to make one main point about how interesting the opening is and then explain how the reader is affected, whilst using three quotes/key words or phrases to evidence it. I usually use it as a stretch and challenge exercise, in extra revision sessions or as bookends to a session. The PPT is a recent thing which allows it to be used as a more inclusive lesson. It offers a strategy to aim for 8 minutes and as much of a sophisticated answer as possible.

AQA 8700/1 GCSE English Language Paper 1 Question 3 Foreshadowing Structure

This uses a character from GOT books and a couple of other famous text examples, with animated annotations and analyses of foreshadowing. One is annotated and the final one is blank which also comes in A4 PDF. The penultimate task can be group annotations, pairs or individual and then finally provide the structure question to write an exam-style response for assessment purposes. Finally, there is a foreshadowing grid for extension, which is guided for less able students. This guidance can be removed for more able students.
AQA 8700/2 GCSE English Language Revision Cards - Paper 2

AQA 8700/2 GCSE English Language Revision Cards - Paper 2

These cover Paper 2 and have a range of texts and questions covering all P2 AOs. There are 2 sets of cards for Reading and 1 set for Writing. 16 mini extracts 32 reading questions 16 example statements for Persuasive Writing. 6 sets of TEQ example answer paragraph cards. There is also a second set of reading cards - which have been coloured to match each individual P2 set, using the block colours allows for quite a sophisticated matching task. Rainbow cards allow for quicker access with easy matching and are much better for lower level learners. The reading cards can be double-sided but single-sided allows for more simultaneous use. Best to laminate them and reduce the risk of wear and tear. A detailed collection for Paper 1 is also in my shop!
