This is a fun revision lesson for Year 10 or 11. It consists of a series of activities which aim to recap key GCSE grammar and vocabulary. In order to ‘crack the code’, students must complete 9 activities. Each activity will provide students with a code word. Once all 9 activities are correctly completed, they will have 9 code words from which to form a sentence in Spanish. They will then have to translate this sentence into English to crack the code. Worksheet and accompanying powerpoint included. I did this recently with my Year 10 class and they absolutely loved it!

GCSE Spanish: Vocabulary revision cards

(0)
This activity contains over 90 vocabulary revision cards which are all various levels of difficulty. Once cut up, pupils take it in turn to pick up a card at random and either speak or write down what the card says. For example “tres animales” (this would be a ‘green’ / easy card) or “tres problemas que existen en familias hoy en dia” (this would be a ‘red’ / difficult card). Translations are provided in English as well on each card to ensure understanding - pupils can either listen to the instruction in Spanish from their partner or read the instruction. This activity will help pupils revise vocabulary for topics that they might not have studied for a while, and will help them figure out which areas of vocabulary they are weakest at. I did this recently with my Year 11 class and they loved it!

KS5 Spanish: Spontaneous Speaking Cards

(0)
These cards aim to enhance fluency and spontaneity amongst KS5 pupils. The idea is that they pick up a card at random, ask their partner the question and listen to their partner’s response (and vice versa). All cards cover the different topics which come up at AS level (fashion, young people, family, tv, music, art, culture, internet and technology, tourism etc.) They are colour-coded based on topic and cover a range of different questions - ranging from the easier to the more challenging. Of course, this resource could be used in a number of ways but I used it with my Year 12 class as a spontaneous on-the-spot speaking activity in which pupils gave each other verbal feedback. It was very successful and pupils enjoyed the surprise element of it!

KS5 Topic Revision & Speaking Practice

**RESOURCE LOOKS FINE ONCE DOWNLOADED - 2 PAGE DOCUMENT APPEARS STRANGELY IN PREVIEW. ** This resource provides KS5 pupils with the opportunity to test their vocabulary and knowledge of different topics. The cards on each sheet can be cut up and used as a card sorting activity, in which pupils have to match up relevant facts to the statements made in the larger boxes. This will enable pupils to practice providing ‘evidence’ when making statements (which is a key aspect of the KS5 speaking exam). Once the cards have been sorted (as a reading activity), pupils can begin having discussions about the statements made and whether they agree / disagree etc. I have done the activity with my current Year 12 class and it really helped them think deeply about different topics and tested their vocabulary. After the match-up activity, they were able to have a detailed debate about a range of topics :)

Pupils can either work their way through this 20 page document for revision, or you could cut up the tense cards (all differentiated and colour coded red, orange, green) and pupils could select cards at random and test themselves. This is a great resource for increasing spontaneity, fluency and accuracy as pupils must complete their chosen card as quickly as possible without making any errors. Adding a competitive element to filling out these cards worked really well with my class! :)
