I've enjoyed wearing many hats throughout my career... university level instructor, elementary and middle school teacher, middle school administrator, staff developer, technology instructor, independent consultant, & adult educator. In my classroom, I embrace a differentiated workshop approach. I've also enjoyed extensive study in brain-based teaching & learning and utilize these principles as the foundation for all my teaching. I love inspiring others to see their amazing potential within!

Fractions are FUN with this sort-count-write fraction activity kit!! Students will sort their candy colors and record fractions to understand that they can be used to show the relationship of parts to a whole. And at the end of the lesson they'll enjoy gobbling up their sweet candy treat! Depending on the brand of candy you purchase, there may be up to four, six or eight different colors in the bag. I've included templates to accommodate them all! I suggest you print off the templates and then LAMINATE them for future use. Students can then use dry erase markers to record their findings. I've also included my "Jellybean Dominoes" game for your kiddos. 60 dominoes have both numerical fractions and jellybean picture fractions. My students LOVE regular dominoes, so they were absolutely delighted to play this jellybean fraction version! Included in this kit: - 3 bright, colorful candy fraction recording templates (for 4, 6, or 8 colors) - for those who prefer to conserve printer ink... 3 white background recording templates - 60 jellybean dominoes (laminate and cut apart) I hope you and your little ones find this to be a DE-licious way to practice fractions! BE SURE to pick up my Brain-based Fraction Chant which makes learning fractions oh-so easy! As always - Wishing you and your mathematicians great success! CCSS 3.NF.A.1, 3.NF.A.3b, 2.G.A.3 tags - fractions, part-part-whole, sorting, counting

Gator Swamp Chomp - Greater than/Less than 1-10 - CCSS: 1.NBT.B.3, K.CC.C.6, K.CC.C.7

Gator Swamp Chomp will help your mathematicians to master the concept of greater than, less than - and leave them begging for more! This 32-slide kit offers teaching points in the beginning, examples for students, math vocabulary words to know, and then loads of fun "playing" while they practice the common core math skill of comparing numbers using greater than and less than symbols. After enjoying the introduction and "teaching points" of the lesson, students will love dragging up the hungry gators to CHOMP on the biggest number... be sure to have them read the number sentence out loud as they take their turns. Scaffolded curriculum design provides more support in the beginning, and then gradually increases the level of difficulty as the game play continues. This file compares the numbers 1-10 in different number forms. Such fun... and SO effective! * * Please note: this is a Smartboard activity and requires that you have "notebook" software to open it. CCSS: 1.NBT.B.3, K.CC.C.6, K.CC.C.7 tags - greater than, less than, comparing numbers, compare numbers, larger, lesser, kindergarten math, first grade math
