This is an English GCSE/IGCSE First Language Reading Lesson, which studies the discursive article ‘Explorers or boys messing about? Either way the taxpayer gets the rescue bill’. Themes: Adventure-Exploration-Human experience Slides include: vocabulary match, link to PAF Youtube video, discursive text features (study and tasks), guided annotation, reading exercises with practice questions that align with the AQA mark scheme and breakdown of AOs for each question. There is also an extention ‘writing to discuss’ task included at the end.

This resource was planned for the AQA English First Language IGCSE Reading Paper, but can be adapted easily for other exam boards. It studies the memoir ‘127 Hours: Between a Rock and a Hard Place’. Includes: PAF, Language, Structure, Literary Techniques, Nouns and verbs, Sequencing and guided analysis task for students. There are practice questions included based on the AQA mark scheme which can be adjusted for other exam boards. There is also a continuation lesson for writing a related article which you can use or lose.
