Inspired by 100,000 Australian teachers, TES Australia launches

TES Australia, (www.tesaustralia.com) is launched by the Hon. Adrian Piccoli, MP and Minister for Education, at an event at the parliament building today.

Inspired by more than 100,000 Australian TES teachers, TES Australia was developed by TSL Education, the publishers of TES Connect (www.tesconnect.com) the largest network of teachers in the world in partnership with, the New South Wales Board of Studies (now the NSW Education Standards Authority or NESA), the Australian Education Union and the Centre for Professional Learning.

Hon. Adrian Piccoli, MP, Minister for Education said, "Supporting professional development for teachers and the sharing of resources for teachers and students alike is critical to improving quality teaching. The TES Australia website gives teachers easy access to even more resources - products developed by their peers and colleagues.”

"As we move through the implementation of measures outlined in Great Teaching, Inspired Learning, and toward the introduction of new Kindergarten to Year 10 syllabuses for English, Mathematics, Science and History in all NSW schools, the sharing of quality resources and the acquired wisdom of our teachers will be a powerful tool. I am very proud of the contribution that NSW teachers have made in the development of the TES Australia site and I'm looking forward to hearing how our teachers put it to use."

Louise Rogers, CEO of TSL Education said “We are delighted to launch TES Australia especially with such a prestigious group of partners. Teachers the world over use TES Connect every day to find the very best lesson plans and inspiration for their students. We have seen huge growth in Australia already so we are excited to take this to the next level, by giving Australian teachers their own dedicated site. TES Australia will also feature the widest selection of Australian education and teaching job vacancies”.

Supporting the Profession

Angelo Gavrielatos, Federal President, Australian Education Union said, “Students are the big winners when teachers share their vast knowledge and experience with each other, TES Australia will facilitate the progressive refinement of lessons. By choosing the best, peer reviewed, proven lesson, teachers themselves are driving up education standards, on the ground and in real time. TES Australia supports, enriches and enhances the profession of teaching and we are delighted to be part of such an exciting initiative.”

Denis Fitzgerald, Founder Director, Centre for Professional Learning said, “By giving teachers a place to come together and share their knowledge, skills, lesson plans and effective classroom strategies, TES Australia increases the intellectual capital of teachers across the nation. In addition, TES Australia supports the democratization of education and gives all children access to the best teaching resources.”

Supporting the new Curriculum

Tom Alegounarias, President, Board of Studies, New South Wales (now the NSW Education Standards Authority or NESA) said, “To support the new curriculum we need to ensure teachers have the tools to meet these new challenges. TES Australia will provide this support with resources, lessons plans and advice. We have helped map over 500,000 resources to the new curriculum and we are confident the site will meet the needs of Australian teachers.”
