Bring festive excitement to your maths lessons with this Christmas Ratio Murder Mystery, ideal for KS2 and lower KS3 Maths, Christmas activities, end-of-term lessons or problem-solving sessions. Pupils work through a full detective-style challenge using ratio reasoning, missing amounts, and scaling to uncover who stole Santa’s sleigh, where the crime took place, and when it happened.

Learners begin by analysing six Christmas-themed suspects—such as Santa’s Elf, The Gingerbread Man, Frosty the Snowman and Peter Penguin—each giving an answer to a ratio problem. Only the thief is telling the truth, so pupils must calculate each scenario accurately to eliminate suspects.

The mystery continues with location clues at four settings (Bowling Alley, Cinema, The Gym, Coffee Shop). At the correct location exactly two statements are true, encouraging pupils to work systematically through ratio and proportion questions.

Finally, pupils examine day-of-the-week clues, each with two ratio or scale statements. The correct day is the one where both statements are correct, providing another layer of reasoning and cross-checking.
