Functional Skills Maths - Entry Level 1 -Shape, Space and Measure Workbooks

This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Entry Level 1(Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, NOCN and Open Awards). It contains six, age appropriate workbooks on outcome 8 in the specification - ‘Using Common Measures Shape and Space’ - describe and make comparisons in words between measures of items including size, length, width, height, weight and capacity.

All the workbooks are available in PDF format and an editable PowerPoint version to enable personalisation of the resource. The workbooks can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.

Volume and Capacity Workbook

The 23-page workbook contains four information/explanation, 17 worksheets, a progress check, a certificate of achievement and answers. The workbook will help pupils to achieve the following outcomes:

to use the words full, empty, half full, half empty to describe the volume of containers.
to compare the capacity and volume of containers using the following terms – more than, greater than, less than, equal to

It also contains some reasoning and problem solving tasks.

Weight Workbook

The workbook focuses on the weight component of measure, It includes one information/explanation sheet, 24 worksheets, one progress check, a certificate of achievement and answers. The workbook also contains some reasoning and problem solving tasks. It will help pupils to achieve the following outcome:

to use the words heavy, heavier, heaviest, light, lighter and lightest to describe and compare the weight of objects.

Length, Height, Width Workbook

The workbook focuses on the dimensions of size, length, height and width. It includes five information/explanation sheets, 23 worksheets, two progress checks, a certificate of achievement and answers.

The workbook will help pupils to achieve the following outcomes:

to use the words big, bigger, biggest, small, smaller, smallest to describe and compare size.

to use the words long, longer, longest, short, shorter, shortest, tall, taller, tallest, wide, wider, widest to describe and compare length, height and width

Money Workbook

This is a 37-page workbook that includes three explanation pages, 32 worksheets, two progress checks, certificate of achievement and answers on money.

Tasks have been designed to achieve the following outcomes:

Recognise 1p, 2p. 5p, 10p, 20p, £1 and £2 coins
Recognise £5, £10 and £20 notes
Show different ways of making amounts of money up to 20p.
Add up to 20p in 1p, 2p, 5p, 10p and 20p coins.
Add up to £20 in £1, £2 coins and £5, £10 and £20 notes.

Time Workbook

This is a 30 page workbook. It includes 7 information/explanation sheets, 21 worksheets, two progress checks, certificate of achievement and answers on time.

Tasks have been designed to achieve the following outcomes:

Know, name and order the days of the week
Know, name and order the months of the year
Know, name and order the seasons
Understand and use the terms yesterday, today and tomorrow
Tell the time to the hour on an analogue clock
Tell the time to the hour on a 12 hour digital clock
Convert analogue to digital time and vice versa to the hour

Shape, Position, Direction Workbook

This workbook includes five information/explanation sheets, 20 worksheets, two progress checks, a certificate of achievement and answers.

The workbook will help pupils to achieve the following outcomes:

Identify and recognise common 2-D and 3-D shapes including circle, cube,
rectangle, square and triangle
Use everyday positional vocabulary to describe position and direction including
left, right, in front, behind, under and above
