This complete lesson has been fully differentiated to be taught to all abilities and includes the following topics and activities: An AfL style starter activity (to assess prior knowledge), asking the students to give ways citizens can participate in the UK’s democracy that they are already aware of. Teaching the students on the two types of barrier to democracy (legal and emotional). Using data to show the students the link between the barriers to democracy and voter turnout by comparing the UK to other countries. A video activity on why young people specifically not engaged in the UK’s democracy. Teaching the students what the various opportunities to democracy that there are in the UK and questioning them on how effective each method is about bringing change in society. An 8 mark GCSE practice question on opportunities and barriers to democracy A homework task asking students to research pressure groups in lieu of the next lesson in the module.

This complete lesson has been fully differentiated to be taught to all abilities and includes the following topics and activities: A memory recall style starter activity to test and evaluate students foundational knowledge on the module so far. The three main options that the UK has to influence global events (mediation, sanctions and force) with a resource sheet that gives a three case studies, one for each option. A 4 mark practice question on the topic of international disputes for students to attempt. What the Geneva Conventions are and asking what students should think be inside them? A video activity on what the International Criminal Court is and asking the students to complete questions on the video. A homework task asking students to research NGO’s currently working in Ukraine in lieu of the next lesson in the module.
