This starter activity is a fun way of quizzing students on their electronics knowledge The quiz is on a PowerPoint presentation uses hyperlinks to take you to the next question if you get the answer correct and incorrect answers to a game over page. There is even a 50/50 option to take away 2 incorrect answers. This is editable so you can change the questions to suit your own means, but if you do so it is important to make sure you either edit the hyperlinks or always keep the correct answers in the same position.

Designed to be used with traffic light cards this resource tests students knowledge of electrical conductors and insulators. The image appears on screen with the first click. Students hold up green for a conductor or red for an insulator. The next click reveals the answer. There are some odd one out slides at the end of the presentation that can be used as a discussion point as to why the material is the odd one out. The is a great, simple way of getting some of the basic principles across to KS3 and KS4 Design Technology students.

How 2 create E-Textiles PCB flashing LEDs 555/ 555 to 4017 range of circuits plus examples

This How 2 guide forms part of a complete project. Aimed at fulfilling aspects of the Eduqas Design Technology course, the project introduces the concept of E-Textiles. Students research E-Textiles and use analysis and evaluation skills. This guide is based upon Circuit Wizard by New Wave Concepts, however the guide would be helpful for a number of different circuit design programs. The PCB uses larger pads that are designed for stitching conductive thread instead of attaching normal off board components on flying leads. The first circuit uses a 555 astable circuit and a 4017 decade counter with 7 LED outputs used to produce a flashing array of lights. The second circuit is a simplified version with only 3 flashing outputs. Up to 6 LED's can be used with this circuit as more LED's can be added in parallel. There is a video showing the simulation of the working PCB. Students are always encouraged to test their PCB's before etching to avoid any wasted materials when mistakes have been made. Also included is a guide to creating a 555 astable PCB with one flashing LED (although a second can be added in parallel. Zipped file includes examples of PCBs that can be opened and used with circuit wizard so textiles students can use these PCBs without having to create them on circuit wizard first.

Based upon the Eduqas Design Technology course, the attached file is intended to be used along side my E-Textiles project, but it could be adapted as required and used as a guide and support for other projects using a sketchbook. The Example sketch book includes Task analysis, Research and Design Ideas example pages, all based around the sketch book idea. Use this on it's own, or alongside the Sketchbook guide and the Presentation Folder guide and Presentation Folder example. There is also a guide to creating a PCB using Circuit Wizard available as part of the bundle, plus a student Homework book to help the students to consolidate their learning.

This project has everything you need to run a steady hand game project. Aimed at KS3 the class booklet introduces simple concepts such as resistance values and thyristor pin names. The booklet also covers designing, analysis of ideas and evaluating the final outcome. The homework booklet reinforces learning. There are also a range of extension tasks. You will find a week by week pictorial guide showing students what to do, there is also a pictorial circuit population guide that you can print off, I have them laminated so they can be reused time after time. Students really enjoy the freedom of being able to follow the guide themselves. I have included zipped 2D design files for the case and zipped PCB files compatible with circuit wizard that can be used to make your PCB's. My students love this project. I hope your do too.

Everything you need to make run an amplifier project. Aimed at year 8 the PCB is made in school (circuit wizard file in zipped file). We use and MDF frame and glue the front and back into place. Unlike the kitronik version, my version has a switch and an LED within the circuit. This project in a box includes a class booklet, homework booklet, printable guide showing students how to populate the circuit and a weekly presentation that you can use to help students through the various steps. Images are used to show students exactly what they need to do. My students love the freedom of following the guide themselves. Also included is an interactive lesson about the components used in the mono amplifier. The resource includes information cards, a quiz book and a plenary.

My students really love this microcontroller project. The project utilises the Genie C08 Microcontroller. I give the students a pre-made project (they develop the flow chart to program the chip). This project includes an E-Portfolio template to guide students through the design and make activity. (Homework tasks are also included) There is a week by week guide to be used to set lesson objectives. Also included is a 2D design template, flowchart and PCB files. Students will learn how to program a microcontroller to respond to changes in an analogue signal. There is also an emphasis on analysis and evaluation with prompts referring to ACCESSFM.

Design Technology/ Thyristor Latching alarm project/ E-Portfolio PCB/ Weekly How 2/ Electronics

This Latching alarm project is a great way to introduce students to the role of the thyristor. The students can follow the guide to design their own PCBs. My students use a key switch and magnetic proximity switch, they love the idea that if someone breaks into their room then they won't be able to turn the alarm off unless they have the key! My students make a vacuum formed case, there is a 2D design file included within the zipped file, you can use this as a starting point to make your mould, or you can just make your own. Included is an E-Portfolio template with great instructions showing students what they need to do. The weekly how 2 guide can be used to set lesson objectives. There is an emphasis on independent learning and analysis. Homework activities support learning.
