'Talking About Art' Starter Activity

(1)
Use the ‘Talking About Art’ placemat as a stimulus when asking your students to talk about art. The attached lesson starter document explains how to use the placemat for a starter activity, where you divide your class into groups and give them time to discuss the sentence starters, and then you ask for feedback. I have also provided a blank ‘Talking About Art’ worksheet should you want a written response. A really useful starter that could be used with any artist or artwork. Writing About Art Literacy Mat

(3)
Use this literacy mat to support writing about art. Simply ask your students to write a sentence about each of the categories e.g. line, tone/value, texture etc using the adjectives provided. This has been designed to work with any artwork. A good example is also included on the place-mat using a painting by Klimt. This 3-page download includes: An Art Literacy Mat for the UK A version for the USA (to account for different spellings) A lesson plan for how to use the mat. I always tell students that they don’t need to limit themselves to the words on the list, so this provides support for those who need it but also lets other students fly! This is also ideal for gallery education. www.TheArtyTeacher.com
