C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity PPTX (Book 2, Ch. 4)

(0)
This 20-slide PowerPoint presentation is designed to teach, engage, and please the eye. It has been developed carefully to accompany the following chapter in C.S. Lewis’ book, Mere Christianity: “The Perfect Penitent.” This is the fourth chapter in Book 2 of Mere Christianity (“Book” is really a section in Mere Christianity). In this chapter, C.S. Lewis focuses on the atonement of Christ and the nature of repentance. Lewis is going to argue that Christ came for two reasons. First, he came to pay the debt that we owed to God because of our sins. Secondly, he took on human nature so that he could know what it is like to surrender his will, suffer, and die, and this would enable him as God to help others do the same. The presentation has been designed with the teacher in mind. The flow of ideas is logical, and will help teachers walk through the chapter in an easy, efficient, and engaging manner. Also, significant effort was spent to give the student a bird’s-eye view of what Lewis is attempting to accomplish so that the student understands what Lewis is doing rather than only appreciating some of his individual statements. PHILOSOPHY Bell Ringer Exercises (10 Total) PPTX

(0)
Bell Ringer exercises can make all the difference. That is why I have created this PowerPoint which consists of ten classical thought experiments from the world of Western Philosophy. All ten are designed to do three things: (1) be entertaining, (2) get students thinking, (3) promote discussion (gets students talking), and (4) introduce the students to Western Philosophy. While there are 24 slides total, nine are blank and serve as dividers. Here is the Table of Contents: Trolley Carts: The Lever Trolley Carts: A Large Man The Drowning Child Moral Obligation Moral Guilt Is Lying Morally Permissible? Supererogation: The Soldier Supererogation: Two Doctors The Chinese Room Experiment The Ship of Theseus Important Note: You don’t need to know a lot about philosophy to use these bell ringer exercises. In some cases, short explanations are given that provide the content.

The Four Loves - C.S. Lewis on "Friendship" (PPTX)

This 27-slide PowerPoint is carefully designed to be engaging for students from both a content and aesthetic perspective. The presentation focuses on C.S. Lewis’ chapter, “Friendship” which is located in his book, The Four Loves. The book is not necessarily an easy read for some, but it is full of wisdom and insight, and is a great read for students, especially if a teacher is focusing on friendship as a theme and possibly including Aristotle and Cicero’s work on friendship as well. This presentation is divided into three main sections: Who was C.S. Lewis? A Brief Overview of The Four Loves (for context) A detailed look at Lewis’ major insights about Friendship

This 34-slide PowerPoint is a significantly upgraded version of a presentation that has been used to teach Philosophy of Mind and Mind-Body theories to university students. It can also easily be used with High School students. This presentation is rich with images, covers a significant amount of material without any of the slides being too wordy or cluttered, has a nice aesthetic look, and is built so that there is a logical flow to the presentation. There is also a “Lecture Map” at the beginning which provides instructors and students with a general, chronological outline of what is covered. Here are the main topics that appear on the Lecture Map: What is Philosophy of Mind? Questions of Relevance The Mind-Body Problem Basic Terms Different Mind-Body Theories The last section is the longest, covering four dualistic theories of mind-body and three materialistic theories.

This 35-slide PowerPoint has been carefully designed with both the teacher and student in mind. It provides an overview to one of William James most famous lectures/essays: “The Will to Believe.” The second slide in the PowerPoint provides the information on which version was used. You can also find free versions in PDF format online. James’ essay is a classic in the Philosophy of Religion, and is usually read in contrast to W.K. Clifford’s view on faith and evidence. This PowerPoint has been created with an attractive aesthetic, logical flow of ideas, word-for-word quotes, important terms, and a clear and simple overview.

Introduction to Critical Thinking (PPTX)

This 30-slide PowerPoint has been carefully designed with both the teacher and the student in mind. It is aesthetically pleasing, informative without being too “wordy,” and arranged so that there is an organic flow to the presentation. Also of importance, it is based on an online chapter titled, “What is Critical Thinking?” on OSU’s website that is available to anyone. For this reason, the reading can be assigned in advance so that the students can read about the subject before the presentation. Other websites were also used in a supplementary manner to build this PowerPoint. Here are a few topics that are covered: What is Critical Thinking? What is Critical Thinking not? Attitudes That Are Obstacles to Critical Thinking 7 Thinking Habits That Characterize Critical Thinking Examples of Critical Thinking Questions to Encourage Critical Thinking
