Created for a revision task where students roll dice to decide upon an emoji and must then link it in someway to something we have learnt about the topic e.g House = Model villages such as Bournville and Port Sunlight or fire = cauterization. It worked well with by lower ability students having something to visualize we then began explaining and describing in more detail. Students take it in turns rolling the dice if they land on the someone as someone else they need to think of a different connection. I have also used this in lesson in conjunction with some of my other revision board games

This activity is designed to aid student writing and build up literacy. Students roll a pair of dice and find the emoji that corresponds to this, they then have to use the emoji in their first sentence e.g. If they landed on the crown it could be “The King’s barons stormed into the village collecting men for his army.” They then repeat to find out their next topic to include. This works well as a way of building literacy into a lesson or I usually print these out and set this as a homework task. Setting a maximum and minimum amount of rolls, and setting a competition to create the most creative story.

A great revision activity that I’ve done in lesson and in revision sessions. Students given score cards and rules and off they go. I recommenced laminating the score cards so they can be written on and wiped off. Add questions to the question cards cut them up and place them in cups. This idea may take some preparation and set up time You will need to get yourself some large cups and ping pong balls, recommend your local pound shop. This really worked for getting Low attainment boys to voluntary come to revision after school. Would then get some exam skills and practice in afterwards.

A lesson aimed at year 9 that looks at why Hitler and the Nazis were democratically elected in 1932, students do a hierarchy task followed by a source question and GCSE styled essay question both with sentence starters. There is a model paragraph to evaluate for the essay styled question. Some challenge tasks are included to stretch the top end.

This lesson looks at the reasons why the war ended and how the peace talks were carried out and what was agreed. This lesson is very teacher led but with some activities for students to carry out. There is a work sheet for them to fill in as the PowerPoint is gone through (only if needed, I gave it to students who struggle with presentation and need some sentence starters). There are challenge tasks to stretch students.

The first lesson for the conflict and tension in Asia 1950-75. The lesson that tries to set the background to the Korean War and get students to have a good grasp of key people and countries. The lesson is designed to be teacher led and to question and get students to think about the information that are learning. Questions are in bold to pose to students GCSE question included with sentence starters and challenge tasks to stretch students.

A tutor time activity to look at the upcoming election, at first it introduces the idea of how the general election works. Then a chance to look at the main parties, the key people and their ideas. The idea is to look at two every day then on the last day to hold our own mini election.

A good activity to get students to recap their topic. Give students 10 minutes per section first 5 they write down everything they can remember, 2 minutes to share with partner and 3 to check their books. They repeat this for all the sections.

Another revision resource based on the board game trivial pursuit, create question cards with different colours representing different colours. I bought myself online some of the games tokens which were cheap or print out some colored triangles to collect. I used these activities to increase engagement and break up revision after school and during lessons.

A great way to engage students into a lesson with this as a starter. Change the picture and it will slowly move the spotlight around the picture only revealing a bit at a time and students need to work out what it is showing and how it may link to the lesson. Can have this working as students walk in as it will keep going until moved to the next slide. For history this is great for source analysis and getting students to pick out key details. To change the picture all you need to do is click on the black object send to back then add new picture and bring it foward again.

This version of connect four involves printing off the tokens and laminating them. This allows you to write on key words. At the end of a lesson students can be chosen to choose a key word and define it and then place it on the game grid. This is a good way of using AFL to gauge students understanding, this works especially well for revision of a topic

A good revision task that get students to improve description and understanding of key words. Create key word cards with 5 words/facts they need to include. Students take it in turns to be told the key word and describe it trying to get as many of the 5 points in the key word. however many of the points they get off the card they score that many points. Students take it on turns after 3 rounds whoever has scored more wins.

Created for GCSE but also used for year nine, students investigate how a peace treaty could set the foundation for Hitler and future conflict. The lesson includes group work and a source analysis question. There are sentence starters, model answers, and challenge tasks to help both sides of the spectrum in a mixed ability class.
