This is an assembly to explain the gender pay gap in society today. -It covers why there is a pay gap -What are the causes of the gap -How equal the UK is compared to other countries -What we can do to fix the pay gap -And it investigates Iceland (the most equal county in the world) The assembly finishes by getting the students to think about the gift of education and what they can do to make the UK a fairer society. The assembly should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete and is always very popular. This is an outstanding and inspirational assembly.

A fun lesson that is a good way to complete a unit on Tectonic Hazards (Earthquakes and Volcanoes) that allows pupils to make a creative piece of writing about tectonic hazards. This lesson can be a one off stand alone lesson or can be used as part of a ‘Fantastic Places’ unit (also available at my shop) It is a really interesting lesson that looks at the unique fascinating lives of one of the isolated tribes in Papua New Guinea. An important lesson as these people may be some of the last who are able to live their lives in this way. The students have really enjoyed this lesson whenever I have taught this lesson.

This lesson has been observed more than once as has consistently been rated as outstanding. It looks at The North Pole (the Arctic), it’s history, it’s future and what it is like to live there. This lesson uses the ‘Home and Away’ groups technique - where students are put into ‘home’ groups, then split up again to become experts in one topic(away groups), they then get together again into their ‘home’ group and teach the rest of their group what they have learned. This lesson looks at Easter Island and how the greed and stupidity of it’s people nearly destroyed the island. This is an important story and can teach us lessons about the world we live in today. The students will get a chance to practice their analytical skills and will have a deeper look at the history of Easter Island. The final task gets the students to use empathy to illustrate the key turning points in the islands history. This lesson includes a bell activity, a starter, main activities, plenary and homework. This lesson looks at Rio and the diversity, colour and inequality that exist in this amazing city. The students will get a chance to practice their geographical writing and will have a deeper look at the Rio carnival. This lesson can be used as a one off lesson or as part of a larger unit of work. I use it as part of a longer unit called ‘Fantastic Places’ (available as a SoW in my shop) which is essentially an introductory unit to geography. This lesson looks at the wonderful African wilderness of Madagascar and gets the students to investigate two of it’s most famous residents: Lemurs and Sharks. A fun and informative lesson that will leave the students thirsting for more (geography!)

This can be used as a stand alone lesson or as the introductory lesson in the Fantastic places SoW. It looks at the amazing India city of Hampi and launches an investigation as to why the city is surrounded by boulders. The students will investigate two ideas: Science and Religion and will need to explain why they believe one over the other. They will also be encouraged to create their own original explanation. A fun lesson with lots to do.
