The sources are from a range of time periods, lots of 19th century to help students familiarise themselves with the langauge needed for paper 2, some 20th and some 21st century sources too. The knowledge organiser is essentially an analysis terminology sheet, offering students key structural and language terminology and analytical verbs plus words to use for effect on the reader. It's aimed at AQA Language Paper 1 but can be adapted.

The idea behind a mini mock is that students are exposed to a full section A of the exam paper quickly. They are able to quickly practice key skills and develop their responses by reading a shorter than normal extract. The whole paper is printed on one side of A4. UPDATED FOR EASTER 2019 - I have added booklets for literature which include A Christmas Carol, Jekyll and Hyde, and Romeo and Juliet. Word documents also there to suit your text combination. There is also an unseen poetry questions/comparison in the new booklets. For Language a 20 page booklet. This takes them through each question in the exam with lots of mini practice questions and spaces to plan their response. It also expects them to recall key details first, such as the mark scheme, marks available, time you should spend on the question. For Literature, a 20 page booklet for the following texts: Macbeth An Inspector Calls Poetry (Power and Conflict) There are 3 sample questions for each with space for students to mindmap the ideas, plan an answer and write a paragraph.

There are a range of key quotations from each text typed up in various fonts, then backed with an analytical paragraph where terminology is in red. For A Chrismtas Carol there are 8 quotations in the shape of baubles. For Macbeth there are 3 dagger quotations, 3 light quotations, and 6 blood quotations, so 12 Macbeth quotations. For ‘An Inspector Calls’ there are 7 quotations, one for each character. Please note only the .pdf version has been uploaded. An example picture of each display is included. The character images in each display are also available in another upload.

This unit is designed to create a (roughly) chronological journey through heroes and villains, from the mythical Medusa through to the modern day Olympic heroes, the unit asks pupils to justify what makes a hero or villain, and why. Each week has a text focus and exposes pupils to a wide range of English skills with a focus on both reading and writing, and many opportunities for speaking and listening through group work. There is a focus on analysing language through close interpretations of quotes. There are also multiple opportunities for assessment.

NB: The Publisher file will NOT show the fonts, so if you don't want to adapt download the pdf. A colourful way of displaying the AFs assessed in some schools at Key Stage 3 - bunting with bright colours and fonts. PDF format as publisher when opened will not show the correct fonts.

Paper 1: drop, shift, zoom in, zoom out Paper 2: anecdote, research, counter-argument, rhetorical challenge Each one has three tips to include and example sentences. These are accompanied with an example exam with an example plan in the display - not included as I hand wrote this. I printed them A3 as this is ideal display size. These were made to accompany a display already uploaded, an section A breakdown for 1-4: On Tes Here Editable word document included, but relevant fonts will be needed. Pdf better for easy printing.

There are 5 sets of matching poems with a particular focus, such as Falling in love School Teachers War Texting The sheet provided gives a space for students to plan their answers for both questions. Editable word documents included if you just want the poems!

Exactly what it says on the tin: each question takes up one full page and has the marks, an explanation of the task, and percentage that it takes up of that section, exam and the whole GCSE, along with a simplified mark scheme. To display and refer to with students. (Note: there are other displays on the document, so don't print the whole thing!)

A 15-20 minute activity getting students to plan an answer to section A and B of both Literature papers. For paper 1, students are given a guide of where the extract is from and a quotation they could use. For the poetry section, students are given a question and 5 suggested linking poems. They must include quotations and points to create a plan for each answer. Three exams given here as a Word document which can be edited. The texts given are Macbeth, A Christmas Carol, Never Let Me Go and Power and Conflict poetry. Test 1: Macbeth powerful / Scrooge responsibility / Tommy or Creativity / Charge of the Light Brigade. There are 2 lots of 4 quizzes with different text combinations (Macbeth, Jekyll and Hyde, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry AND Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Conflict Poetry) and the answers on the following slide. All questions are interleaved and each quiz is worth 20 marks - I plan to use them simply as quick starters in the run up to the exams, which are immediately peer-assessed so students know where the gaps are in their knowledge.
