Using the 5 Ws to evaluate print ads and commercials, these media literacy graphic organizers will help guide your students to dig deeper into the motivations and methods of the advertising world.
NB - Each year, I search for a video on YouTube of “top 5 ads of [year]” and a website with a list of “clever print ads” to use with the activity.
In this project, students choose their favourite poem, identify poetic devices, and look into the socio-cultural background of the poem, and ultimately make a powerpoint or poster of their findings.
This writing project is always popular - and it’s even interesting to mark! Do it at the beginning of the year to get to know your students, or do it later in the year when you’re working on sentence structure or editing skills, giving students the chance to represent themselves how they want to be seen.

It’s so important to build community and trust between students in the classroom. This activity is designed to help students get to know each other in a safe, fun way.
