Using the 5 Ws to evaluate print ads and commercials, these media literacy graphic organizers will help guide your students to dig deeper into the motivations and methods of the advertising world. NB - Each year, I search for a video on YouTube of “top 5 ads of [year]” and a website with a list of “clever print ads” to use with the activity.

It’s so important to build community and trust between students in the classroom. This activity is designed to help students get to know each other in a safe, fun way. Students will have one-on-one guided discussions based on the 7 prompts that are outlined in the activity, including discussing points of pride, challenges, heritage, and sharing preferences., among others. Included: Instructions, assessment and extension activity suggestions, student handout. This activity page is designed for students roughly 7-16 years of age.

This writing project is always popular - and it’s even interesting to mark! Do it at the beginning of the year to get to know your students, or do it later in the year when you’re working on sentence structure or editing skills, giving students the chance to represent themselves how they want to be seen. 12 sentence starters, full criteria, and a tiny picture of an example included.
