Hi there! I'm both an English and Geography teacher in London. I am currently working in an Outstanding school which is my second Outstanding school of my career in London after teaching in both Ireland and the Middle East. My resources are both English & Geography resources where I like to give the student an active role in their learning. It is done by many activities such as Q&A sessions, exercises, group/pair-work and many others.

The second lesson analyses the poem in more detail, focusing on language and structure. These resources were created as part of remote learning but can easily be used within the classroom.

This PowerPoint introduces students to the context behind the poem wounds and also the poet. The students complete a ‘Do Now’ and then assess their prior knowledge of Northern Ireland which then leads into discussion. They are given a background to the poet before observing the poem after completing a mini task relating to the title. There is also a YouTube video relating to Bloody Sunday which gives students a visual before completing a task on their first impressions of the poem. This is the first lesson from two where the poem will be analysed in detail-language and structure. *NB: To make this more student friendly, the comment on the Pope was removed-this can be changed at your own discretion.

In this lesson we look at how ‘The American Dream’ impacts the characters after chapter one and how it relates to the context of the novel. In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.

This is a Non-Fiction lesson whereby students have to think about their own lives with the main question being “Who Are You?” This lesson brought a lot of thought provoking questions to students and much intrigue. This is aimed at Year 9 students as they are about to transition into KS3 and it is linked to the ‘Growing Up’ section in their textbooks.
