This presentation concern the use of the internet within media studies. This presentation gives the advantages and disadvantages of the internet. It also gives students the opportunity to work in pairs and individually.

This PowerPoint in an introduction to Lord Byron’s ‘When We Two Parted’. The lesson poses questions to students in terms of poetic techniques and also what message the poet is trying to portray. It then relates back to the theme of love and relationships before a plenary.

This can be used for an English or Extra English class. Within the PowerPoint it prompts students to think of the context and the books setting. This leads students to use empathy with the characters within the book.

This lesson analyses Bishop’s In the Waiting Room in a stanza by stanza manner by pointing out certain poetic techniques. This comes after students are asked for their first impression of the poem as a starter.

This lesson focuses on Stave one of ‘A Christmas Carol’. The lesson gives students awareness of the many techniques uses such as pathetic fallacy to create such an atmosphere. The lesson starts with the students’ first impression of Scrooge by analysing an extract describing Scrooge. It also makes students aware of such things as plot, character relationships and dialogue etc.

This is a simple resource for group work/pair work to annotate important quotes from Hamlet. There are 5 sheets in total on an A4 landscape sheet.

Analysis of Elizabeth Bishop’s ‘First Death in Nova Scotia’ where it analyzes style, theme of life and death and also gives a background into Bishop’s other poetry in terms of content.

There are 6 articles with 20 questions and also a long question focusing on the writers’ opinions and perspectives. There is also an aswer booklet for the 120 questions. This PowerPoint introduces students to the context behind the poem wounds and also the poet. The students complete a ‘Do Now’ and then assess their prior knowledge of Northern Ireland which then leads into discussion. They are given a background to the poet before observing the poem after completing a mini task relating to the title. There is also a YouTube video relating to Bloody Sunday which gives students a visual before completing a task on their first impressions of the poem. This is the first lesson from two where the poem will be analysed in detail-language and structure. *NB: To make this more student friendly, the comment on the Pope was removed-this can be changed at your own discretion.

In this lesson we look at how ‘The American Dream’ impacts the characters after chapter one and how it relates to the context of the novel. The lesson is structured in such a way whereby students start with a ‘Do Now’ and have an opportunity to give their points across through classroom discussion and think-pair-share. There are also main tasks to consolidate the learning and ending with a plenary. This is lesson 6 from a 24 lesson scheme of work that I have created and is available as a bundle. Included is a 40 page SoW that goes through each lesson.

This lesson is the second from two lessons that I created on Alice Dunbar Nelson’s poem ‘I Sit and Sew’. In this lesson the students will learn about language and structure and how the poet uses structure effectively within this poem. This lesson was used for remote learning but can easily be used in class also.

In this PowerPoint students start by giving their opinion of Fagin from what they have read in the text before reading the ending of the novel. The extracts focus on Oliver and Fagin’s conversation while Fagin is in prison. The students work in pairs with differentiated sheets and answer questions on the extract. These are also included. The end of this PowerPoint then asks the students if their opinion of Fagin has changed after close analysis of the extract. The main aim of this class is for students to build a sense of empathy for Fagin and come to the realisation that Bill Sykes is the real villain in this story.

This is a PowerPoint that I made for an observation. It has several different tasks including a differentiated ‘Think-Pair-Share’ task. It also has a modelled PEEL paragraph for the students to observe before they try their own PEEL paragraph while following each step.

This is a full lesson from which I was observed by an inspector. This is a Non-Fiction lesson whereby students have to think about their own lives with the main question being “Who Are You?” This lesson brought a lot of thought provoking questions to students and much intrigue. This is aimed at Year 9 students as they are about to transition into KS3 and it is linked to the ‘Growing Up’ section in their textbooks. A PowerPoint resource for the poem Dulce et Decorum est by Wilfred Owen. It starts with a small bio to uncover the context of the poem. The poem is broken into smaller stanzas so the students can engage with the poem. Many key words are underlined and a description of the poems meaning given. Questions are posed to promote class discussion.

A presentation I used for my students to plan a question from the 2009 Leaving Certificate examination. The emphasis is on the students to plan their own answer to the question after being prompted by certain themes and Q&A discussion within the class.

This lesson introduces students to Macbeth by posing questions in relations to historical context and staging at the time. Throughout the PowerPoint students have to answer questions and engage with images from the play to aid them in their understanding of the play as they read it.

A lesson on Esther Walker’s ‘Baby on Board’ article from the Evening Standard where she questions the use of the badge on the tube in London. I have used it with my Year 10’s for English Language and they were very engaged with points for and against Walker’s thoughts.
