The aim of this activity is for children to create a poem using one of Picasso’s paintings as inspiration. This activity does not ‘teach’ poetry rather it provides an opportunity to use an art source to inspire creative writing. The aim is for children to look at the painting and use its appearance and the feelings it evokes to create a poem. The painting included in the resource was made by Pablo Picasso. Picasso was a Spanish Artist who was successful in his own lifetime as well as after death. In this resource children will learn about Viking jewellery. They will explore what it was made of, why it was made and take a look at the popular patterns and motifs that Vikings used in their designs. Children will then design their own Viking style brooch before turning it into a 3D version made from clay or salt dough. They will then review their work. This resource is aimed at KS2 level (years 4, 5 and 6). This Remembrance Day themed art activity explores the four different colours of poppies that are currently in use (red black,purple and white) . Children will first learn about the colour and meaning of each poppy before designing their own version which could be used to represent all groups. Once designed the poppies could be cut out and made into a wreath or other display. I have successfully used this worksheet with years 3,4, 5 and 6 but it could also be used with younger and older children too. Only minimal art supplies are needed- pencils, erasers and something to colour with.

This living artist is inspired by the buildings she sees on her travels around the world. It is a time of joy and happiness, skulls are an important feature of the celebration and are seen everywhere. This resource includes five skulls that can be coloured and decorated. The designs are of varying difficulty levels and include a blank one for those that want to completely design their own skull. I have successfully used these templates with years 3,4,5 and 6 to create masks and bunting but they could also be used by both younger and older children. This resource has been made for you to use during Children’s Mental Health Week (6th - 12th February). The theme for this year is ‘Let’s Connect’. More information about the event can be found at: www.childrensmentalhealthweek.org.uk The aim of this activity is for children to think about the connections that they have with others. when children have healthy connections with others it makes them feel good about themselves and have a sense of belonging. Connections can also be with places, pets and activities. When children lack healthy connections it can lead to feelings of isolation and poor mental health. In this activity children will first think about the connections that they have with others, they will then add colour to the pipes and background and write their connections on different sections of the pipes. The artwork squares can then be cut out and the children can connect their pipes together with the rest of the class -making a lovely display for mental health week and showing the children how they all fit together and connect with each other as a class. Minimal art supplies are needed- just something to colour with and scissors. This resource has been designed for KS2 but it could also be used with other age groups depending on ability.
