The first lesson in a unit where students explore how teenagers are represented across a range of visual and written sources. At the end of the term, students will sit a CIA style (Essential English) response to stimulus exam with two sources.

The lesson begins with some discussion questions around teen stereotypes. There is a comedic viewing activity for students to watch and identify stereotypes in. Important terms are introduced: teenager, adolescent, adolescence & youth. An assessment overview is provided. Then students are introduced to some text structures which are in visual texts. These include: reading path (aka sequencing), positioning, headings and sub headings and bullet points. There are a range of visual sources (posters, PSAs, advertisements and infographics) on various slides to prompt discussion.

Part of a set of resources created for a year 10 English class in Australia (ACARA syllabus, version 9). The other resources are also available in my store – Aussie_Resources. A PowerPoint designed for use in a 70 minute lesson.
