Representation & Structure CPD

This presentation is based on the Big Idea of Representation and Structure and focuses on the following:

• CPA
• Key messages surrounding representation and structure
• Various research by: Bruner, Heibert, Russell, Boonen, van Wesel, Jolles & van der Schoot
• Potential barriers
• Different representations with consideration given to: what concrete resources do you have in your school? Where are they? What do you /don’t you use? What might the barriers be? For your year group, what are your key manipulatives?
• A closer look at frequently used manipulatives and representations such as:
• Place value chart
• Place value counters
• Gattegno chart
• Part-whole model
• Bar model
• Number line
