Such a fun lesson! Included is a brief powerpoint encouraging the children with ideas of what it may look like and natural environments for different types of insects. I would send the parental letter out a week or two before so they can help out with the items needed. Enjoy!

FIFA Player Cards - Very Student Friendly Self/Peer Assessment Tool

FIFA Player Cards - Very Student Friendly Self/Peer Assessment Tool

This is a great resource to engage students with meaningful peer assessment, linked to the hugely popular FIFA player cards I’m sure you have heard of. If not, ask your students! I created this resource as a PE teacher for use in PE, however could be used whole school. I have found this has engaged, boys in particular, into some amazing peer assessment conversations. It’s also a great tool for self assessment and to track progress over time. My students loved using these. My GCSE students used them against their practical assessment criteria, while I created a very loose assessment criteria for my KS3 students to follow and assess themselves. They can obviously be adapted to suit the needs of your subject/lessons/schemes of work. I laminated mine so they can be used come wind, rain or shine! There are so many ways to use the cards and they have increased the quality of student feedback in lesson no end. A great tool to get students to assess with using the word “assessment!”

For an indepth preview of the booklet, take a look here: https://www.slideshare.net/ianmorenomelgar/attack-the-block-scheme-of-work-viewing-guide-ebook-revision-booklet Some of the work includes: the context of the production of the film, London, social housing, gang culture and the London Riots of 2011. Also includes key facts and information on the making of the film and systems for keeping notes during watching with templates using the Cornell notes system. There are also in-depth details on key scenes, dozens of screenshots from the film as well as images from other relevant areas that have influenced the film. You will also find a range of screenshots and screen grabs from other sci-fi films such as Blade Runner and Aliens. There are also screen shots from British films such as Harry Brown and A Clockwork Orange to aid and support the work on comparing film texts. Maybe give to students as a detailed homework that can be completed alongside your own classroom work. It also works great for revision, either with individual task printed or again, as a whole booklet. Try printing individual pages as starters or plenaries, or even using the tasks as engaging resources for lessons built around key ideas of your own. It contains key facts and information for each case study, with a map showing the location of the case study, by different coloured dots in relation to each case study . This allows students to effectively revise all key knowledge needed for case study based questions, like extended 20 markers, where students only need to know a couple of facts to meet the criteria. It is also fully editable, so you can adapt and change for your school’s case studies. I would suggest, printing this off in colour, A4 or A5 for pocket sized revision cards. Then laminate for best use and practice. Students can also use these as a basis for revision. Create mind-maps, cue cards and topic links! WHERE ON EARTH ARE THE TOP TEN ISLANDS OF THE WORLD - A CLASSROOM PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

WHERE ON EARTH ARE THE TOP TEN ISLANDS OF THE WORLD - A CLASSROOM PRACTICAL ACTIVITY

If you are looking for a ready made classroom activity that can involve a mixture of on screen discussion, use of student knowledge and opportunity for student research then this unit will fit the requirement. This standalone activity is one in a series that will expand student locational and global knowledge as it poses the basic question of "where in the world are…" Well you could provide printed sheets with maps and tables showing the TEN TOP ISLANDS but if you do that then that takes away the challenge of discovery and allows for the possibility that the material will remain rather lifeless and forgotten. Most students like the challenge of discovery and when/if they become involved in the process they will remember the names and possibly the order of the islands they discover. How about starting with a blank screen and ask for suggestions of the TEN TOP ISLANDS (by area). You should get a few - some will be in the top ten and some will not. THEN screen page 2 with the country flags. You can then remove those islands from the initial list that are not on the flag list. The next activity is to screen the table of the TOP TEN ISLANDS with its many blanks. Your students should have a hard copy of that page. HONSHU JAPAN is provided as an example of the fill in. THEN show the screens with the outline of the TOP TEN ISLANDS. Some of those may be known and can possibly be placed in the correct rank order. There are additional clues for those who look carefully. Once you have a few islands in the correct slots the final order becomes easier. Oh! If you do become stumped there is help available in the final pages but hopefully you won’t need that. To consolidate the locational knowledge there is a world map which provides an opportunity for students to have their own record of the TOP TEN. There will be other units in the TOP…whatever series. Enjoy the discover along with your class.
