A fun colourful teaching and revision of notation. Also intro to orchestra.

A fun colourful teaching and revision of notation. Also intro to orchestra.

Lower school. Follow Rosie and Hoops as they help Professor Blithe work out the clues to the next mystery!! Resource introduces students to rhythm sums, notation spellings, composers, instruments of the orchestra, sharps and flats, and notes on the keyboard. Not going to lie - could mark this during the lesson that got the powers that be off my back, looked impressive when there were 350 of these all marked with feedback. Students enjoyed it and the lower ability GCSE enjoyed doing it “felt like doing a puzzle in a magazine”. It has massively helped with writing of sharps and flats and understanding of naturals.

Introduction to Band Work - Another Day in Paradise. Includes chords, tabs, lyrics & explanations

Introduction to Band Work - Another Day in Paradise. Includes chords, tabs, lyrics & explanations

This is a great project for classes who are being introduced to band work for the first time. You can teach all of the parts of this song including the ostinato line, chords on the piano and ukulele, lyrics for singers. There is also a very clear structure for bands to follow as well as lessons on how to play a chord and follow a chord structure. When teaching this topic as a whole class, student are very often able to go into bands and put the parts together as a rock/pop band. I always teach this as the final topic for my Year 8s at the end of the Summer Term ready for Year 9.

The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

The Greatest Showman 10 minute medley

This is a 10 minute medley that I have edited and produced. It would be great for a school performance or an assembly activity. The songs included (in order) are: The greatest show, Million Dreams, This is Me and Come Alive. There are 3 files to this resource: The Song Sheet the lyrics are in two colours, Black for solo singing parts that can be split to suit your group and Blue for the ensemble parts. The Medley MP3 This is a medley arranged by myself, it is a backing track but the original singers remain for the ensemble parts just to give the kids a bit of help. The Medley with singing MP3 I have recorded the song with vocals to show where the solo parts come in. I performed this medley with KS1 and Lower KS2 children. I split the solo parts into 3-4 lines each child, either alone or in little groups. They had no trouble learning their parts and the added ensemble vocals gave the volume needed for the big chorus parts. Please leave a review and happy singing!

Water Music - Composition Activity Resources

Water Music - Composition Activity Resources

Children will discover how Debussy was inspired by water before using the pentatonic scale to compose and perform their own compositions that portray a journey of water in the impressionistic style of Debussy on keyboards or tuned percussion. 11 Slides include: An opening quote based around depicting our everyday lives in music Lesson objective An introduction to Debussy, impressionism and the pentatonic scale Appraising task (4 short excerpts of Debussy’s piano music) Composition task steps to success Images of the ‘calm’ and ‘rapid’ water motifs Examples of children’s graphic scores which represent a journey of water Worksheets: ‘Calm’ and ‘rapid’ water motifs sheet music Supplementary writing sheet for the appraising task Audio files (MP3): 4 short excerpts of Debussy’s piano music that portray the flow of water: The Sunken Cathedral Goldfish Reflections in the Water Gardens in the Rain Starter/appraising task: After a brief introduction to Debussy, his compositional style and the pentatonic scale, the children will get the opportunity to listen to four excerpts of Debussy’s piano music. Depending on the children’s age, they can either use the supplementary worksheet to write about how Debussy has used the elements of music to portray either calm or rapid water or this can simply be a discussion. Composition activity: The children will use the ‘Calm’ and ‘rapid’ pentatonic motifs sheet and incorporate these, as well as their own, into a composition for keyboard or tuned percussion that portrays the journey of water. Children can work alone or as a duet, which can then be turned into a whole class performance where one group’s composition blends into another. Plenary/next steps The children will be given the opportunity to perform, listen to other group’s performances and appraise each other’s performances. They can also be given the opportunity to create a graphic score to represent the journey of water depicted in their compositions. This is an extremely easy resource to use and has produced some beautiful compositions and outstanding performances from the children in my classes. It can be used in a single lesson or for introducing a full unit on Debussy, impressionism and the pentatonic scale.

5-Note Scale Warm-Up: 3D Foldable for Beginning Band (Concert Bb)

5-Note Scale Warm-Up: 3D Foldable for Beginning Band (Concert Bb)

This is a fun five-note scale warmup to help elementary/beginning band students learn the first five notes of the concert Bb scale. It comes with folding pages that can be folded in half for assessing students on scales, and it comes in a 3D folding prism where students can practice their scales in one of three ways! The folding sheets can hang off the top of a music stand. One side asks students to write in measure numbers and note names. The other side is the scale for their instrument, without any note names or clues. The double folding sheet can be turned into a triangular prism and can rest on the music stand. One side has students number the measures and label the note names. The second side has the scale which students can play from with no clues. The third side has a blank staff where students draw their notes onto the staff. This is a great tool for differentiation because students can read from the side that meets their needs. Check out the preview to see all of the worksheets. Pages and Instruments Include: •Ideas for Use •Single Fold Warm-Up Sheets •Double Fold Warm-Up Sheets •Flute, Oboe •Clarinet, Trumpet •Alto Sax, Baritone Sax •Tenor Sax •French Horn •Bassoon, Baritone, Euphonium, Trombone •Tuba •Mallets •Blank Template
