Over the life of this project we’ve been able to inspire over 2 million young people! The EJ200 Typhoon jet engine’s nozzle is key to getting reheat (aka afterburners). The titanium petals open and close to manage the airflow, generating the trust to reach supersonic speeds.

This whole lesson uses the ‘real - life’ science of the BLOODHOUND SSC to draw links between the particle model, fire triangle, combustion, incomplete combustion and rates of reaction to describe how we use scientific knowledge to increase the speed of our car, and explain how jet engines work. Includes a bespoke video and AFL quiz, a combustion demonstration (requires candle, limewater, cobalt chloride paper) interactive gifs explaining rates of reaction, and a plenary/homework crossword with answers. ** KS3 National Curriculum Links:** The Particulate nature of matter: the properties of the different states of matter (solid, liquid and gas) in terms of the particle model, including gas pressure.   Combustion.
