I currently teach IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Also A level Biology. The resources I produce for my lessons are carefully planned and I try to involve a lot of self-learning to allow students to develop these important skills needed for further education.
I currently teach IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Also A level Biology. The resources I produce for my lessons are carefully planned and I try to involve a lot of self-learning to allow students to develop these important skills needed for further education.

Lesson 1 covers the CNS, receptors and responses. It also introduces neurones and their role.
Lesson 2 covers synapses and their structure/role in the nervous system
Lesson 3 looks at the 3 types of neurones found in the CNS which will link into reflex arc
Lesson 4 looks at the Reflex arc
There are activities and assessments in each of the power point. There are also questions to generate a class discussion and check points.
Edexcel Specification Point: 5.20; 5.21; 5.22 covered.
A complete lesson discussing the implications in a global change of climate.
There are opportunities for group/pair discussion plus exam style questions and answers to check understanding.
A power point lesson which guides students through data in the form of carbon dioxide levels; global temperature; rising sea levels and glacial melting.
Students gain practice in data analysis which is vital in this module. There are also a series of exam questions with answers to support their understanding.
This lesson links with Edexcel IAL Unit 4
4 lessons focusing on the non-specific and specific responses to infection.
I have split the lessons into 4 parts due to the subject material being very complex.
The lessons cover Edexcel specification links 6.8 - 6.10 but can be used with other exam boards
The lessons have many different opportunities for assessment and recalling previous learnt material.
A series of activities for students to complete in class or at home in preparation for the unit 4 examination. It is most useful to use before they attempt exam past papers
Resources include:
A tick sheet for revision
A learning grid with focused questions to ensure students cover main topics in unit 4 (11 pages). This includes photosynthesis; global warming; evolution; GPP and NPP; microorganisms and how they reproduce; the immune response; immunity ; PCR; DNA profiling and forensics.
Vocabulary reinforcer
Exam command words reminder
A PDF worksheet, with answers, focusing on the limiting factors of photosynthesis. The experiment involves a student changing the light wavelength and investigating the rate of the reaction. Questions are similar to those found on exam papers relating to the topic.
This resource is great for:
In-class worksheet
Pre/post-test
Homework assignment
Support work
A PowerPoint which explains the difference between bacteriostatic and bacteriocidal antibiotics. It includes simple activities of students collecting information from cards around the room. There is also an exam question to check knowledge.
Brief video explaining the difference and then students collect information from cards and internet
2 Power points covering all of the key points of Epigenetics.
Lots of student tasks including individual, paired and group work.
Exam questions included to check understanding
Edexcel Spec link 6.7 (i) (ii)
An introduction to how bacteria are able to spread from one person to another. We then look at how the body protects itself against pathogen entry. This is a circus activity where students gather information from around the room (cards provided). Finally we research how bacteria cause the disease with endotoxins and exotoxins.
Tow power point lessons which look at the action of antibiotics on bacteria - bacteriostatic and bactericidal. Also, how natural selection has made certain bacteria resistant to antibiotics and why this has occurred.
There are activities for the students to promote active learning plus video resources and questions.
2 A3 PDF worsheets which a range of exam questions covering the topics in the unit Energy, Environment, Microbiology and Immunity.
There are many variations of how students could be examined on topics from unit 4. Students can produce model answers in preparation for the exam.
I have provided questions on the following topic areas:
Photosynthesis - light dependent reaction; Light independent reaction; assimilation of products from photosynthesis; Chloroplast structure; Ecology; decomposition; forensic science; DNA profiling and electrophoresis; succession; aseptic technique; climate change; speciation and evolution; structure of bacteria and viruses; immune response; immunity and vaccination; carbon cycle.
Perfect for Retrieval Practice in preparation for the exams.
My students wrote a model answer for each question on flash cards
A series of revision mats to compliment the IGCSE edexcel syllabus. Each revision mat consists of examination style questions to challenge knowledge and understanding.
For best results, I photocopy onto A3 paper.
Can be used to complete a topic or revision for test/exams.
A power point presentation introducing the concept that pathogens are constantly evolving against treatments we have.
Students discuss how HIV and TB have managed to evade detection by the immune system
Article about people who have protection against the HIV virus (CCR5 gene) with questions.
Exam questions
AS Biology lesson on the process of fertilisation in flowering plants from pollen tube formation to fusion of nuclei.
Contains a useful video I found on youtube which explains the process. I have also included a starter activity of labelling the plant parts (IGCSE) and an exam question with mark scheme for self assessment activity.
An A level lesson focusing on productivity of plants. Students are introduced to the terms GPP and NPP plus the calculation. I have included an exam question with markscheme.
This resource focuses on Edexcel specification link 6.11
It introduces the different types of immunity.
There is a video resource and questions to check understanding.
The information cards can be printed and put around room for students to collect information to make it more interactive. I was short on time so I went through them on the board as students made their own notes.
Edexcel Topic 1 spec points:1.10, 1.11, 1.15 and 1.17
