The lesson focuses on WhatsApp and the problems caused by teens using the service before the legal joining age of sixteen. For the Gatsby Careers Guidelines - A careers assembly lasting around 20-25 minutes (including short clip) with a focus on why Careers Education is so important and how students can make the most of all the opportunities presented to them whilst in school. The assembly examines the cases of two fictional ex-students, Alisha and Jack, who didn’t take Careers Education seriously and ended up paying the price for it by adding years on to their lives in the time it took them to eventually find their ideal jobs. An assembly all about the impact that random acts of kindness can have. It explores why we need to be kind to each other, the effect small acts can have on our family, friends and the wider communities and in turn our own emotional wellbeing. The assembly lasts around 20 minutes, including a short clip. As part of the assembly you will need to place three Post-Its randomly where the children will sit. You will be calling those three students who sit on a Post-It up to give them a small gift (perhaps a tube of Smarties).You will then ask them questions about how they feel - this is to show the impact of an act of kindness when people aren’t expecting it (which scientists have shown to have more impact than if they are). The assembly is very easy to follow (and has additional teacher notes in the slide-notes of the PowerPoint). It is also editable. 2 HOURS A fully-resourced PSHE / RSE lesson which serves as an introduction to the difference between sex and gender and explores sexuality, identity, language (correct terms) and gender expression. Students will explore new key terminology before investigating the key components of identity and sexual orientation, why some people still find some of the ideas behind this controversial (such as pronoun use) and then educate other students on a trait they will be working on and presenting in small groups (all information needed is included). This lesson is great to consolidate the PSHE 2020/24 spiral curriculum (especially for an LGBT+ unit) or for a Citizenship diversity unit. NEW - 2 HOUR lesson all about extremism and radical ideology. Students will first explore how TikTok and Youtube algorithms can recommend videos which purposefully push radical views, from misogyny to extreme religion and more, to people who did not intentially search for such content, and discover how people can fall down radical rabbit-holes. They will examine the 'frog in a pot' anology to show how extremist views can take such a stronghold on people. Students will then explore the political spectrum to discover what we mean when we talk about far right, far left and religious extremism, comparing these to sensible left of centre, right of centre and moderate religious views. Using this guide, students will then examine real-life quotes from TikTok and assess whether the quotes would be classed as moderate and sensible views, or are in fact extreme. There are many more quotes than shown in the preview, so teachers can pick and choose which they use according to the suitability for their classes.
