Contains some higher level language. Tip: set short time limits per block of questions and go through them with the class when the time's up! Then move on. Keeps them on their toes and avoids inattention and lack of motivation if they find a particular task hard. Or, use the sheet as starters over a series of lessons. The bottom exercise has one answer missing: hopefully superlearners will spot this ;)

A Tarsia puzzle. Search for Tarsia software so you can open it! Could be a good starter to check progress once vocab’ covered/basis for discussion of new vocabulary if introducing the vocabulary as new. Good for pairs to discuss language. Could set a time limit to create some competition! Contains vocab’ such as être/avoir/family members. The puzzle has to be cut out into triangles and then placed French to English to create a shape.

Blank jigsaw pieces to complete with written personal information. If cut out, the pieces should tessellate if turned around. Could make an effective activity for lower ability groups...

Jigsaw pieces for pupils to develop simple writing about themselves. Useful to help develop independence in writing: you may wish to use it as a crib sheet. It could act as a speaking aide-mémoire also. See also my Tout sur Moi template which has sentence beginnings to support weaker pupils.

Instructions on the sheet. To summarize: cut out dice on card and stick. In pairs, use dice to recall vocab’ for food topic in food categories.

French Y7 Term 1.1 Speaking/Writing Assessment A simple assessment with the flexibility to be used for speaking and/or writing. It begins with a model answer by Harry Potter with key words to change underlined. Learners can then use the model to write about themselves, so it suits low ability.
