A-Level, GCSE Literature. Key quotations from the novel for students to learn for the exam.

GCSE English Language, non-fiction, Edexcel Paper 2 Non-fiction and Transactional Writing. Two contrasting non-fiction texts give opinions about teenagers. The PowerPoint guides you through several lessons dealing with each article, comparing them and the producing a piece of their own transactional writing at the end.

Creative introduction to the ballad using images inspired by the poem. Ideal for the first lesson when students have no prior knowledge of the poem. In groups, give out the different images. They create the 'backstory' behind the image - as creatively as possible! Then each group presents their story idea in front of their image (which can be projected via the PowerPoint). This could be followed by a prediction activity of how all the images might fit together.

Independent creative project for KS3 (to be completed either by hand or on computers). Includes a list of tasks to complete for their magazine as well as a peer assessment grid at the end so they can mark each other's work and give a grade.

This extract is from 'War of the Worlds' and describes the Martian's appearance. Designed in the style of the Edexcel GCSE English Language Paper 1 Fiction and Imaginative Writing but useful for any 19th century language practice. Tasks provided for both Reading Section A and Writing Section B.
