Shape activity for Year 5 and 6

(0)
This is a Christmas-themed activity that can be adapted for other times in the year! The resource includes two separate activities - one for a Year 5 class and one for Year 6. The following learning objectives from the new curriculum are covered: Year 5 LI: To draw given angles, and measure them in degrees (o) To identify angles at a point and one whole turn (total 360o) To identify angles at a point on a straight line and a ½ turn (total 180o) Year 6 LI: To draw 2-D shapes using given dimensions and angles The children I did this with found it challenging but fun! Input will need to be given about angles, types of triangles, how to use a protractor, perimeter and area. This is covered through this activity at a basic level.

Plotting coordinates using up to four quadrants!

I have created this for a year 5 top set maths group. It is differentiated 3 ways, yellow being the less able, green able and pink more able. This links in very heavily with shape as I am teaching this following 3 weeks on shape, space and measure, so it will continue to embed their knowledge of quadrilaterals, types of triangles, angles and parallel and perpendicular lines. Hope this is useful! Have included photos of what it should look like once points have been plotted, hopefully I haven't made any silly mistakes! :-)

A sheet for children to help them understand time and for them to plot what they do in a day. Helps enforce a day is 24 hours. LA pupils could verbally explain what they do at each part of the day. MA can be extended to convert the times into a 24 hour clock.

Want to teach children adding and subtracting fractions using real-life examples? Look no further! In this resource pack it shows children different methods they can use in concrete and pictorial ways. Sheets for more able children are included without the images.
