This is a differentiated A-level chemistry revision resource covering the different types of Ecell questions. There are 8 sections, each one increasing in difficulty. The resource is editable and the markscheme is provided. Could be used in a revision lesson at the end of the topic. There is also useful tips on how to calculate Ecell and writing of cell diagrams. There is one of every type of Ecell question that students could be tested on in an exam. Takes about 2 hours to complete. Each one covers all the different types of calculations they need to revise for the exams.

An A-Level Chemistry resource on purification of organic liquids. The handout includes labelled diagrams and information on the organic techniques of reflux, distillation, washing and drying. Includes diagrams of heating by reflux, distillation, separating (tap) funnel and drying agent. With each diagram is information about what each technique is used for. E.g. purpose of washing with HCl, NaHCO3 or water. Purpose of a drying agent with relevant examples. Why antibumping granules are required in a pear shaped flask. Why the water goes in the bottom of a condenser and out at the top and much more. The information helps students prepare for questions on A-Level required practicals on organic chemistry.

Starts with questions on the basics, calculating mole fraction and partial pressure. Then the questions increase in difficulty to exam standard Kp questions. The editable resource takes about a double lesson for students to complete and gives an example of every type of exam question that can come up on Kp.

A knowledge organiser on the GCSE Chemistry topic of electrolysis. Is suitable for the new AQA GCSE 2018 syllabus (from the chapter “Chemical changes”). Contains information on electrolysis of molten ionic compounds like lead bromide, the electrolysis of aluminium oxide and also the electrolysis of aqueous solutions like sodium chloride (brine.) Includes explanations on what happens at the electrodes (oxidation/reduction), the ionic equations involved, and for aqueous solutions, explanations of why we get hydrogen instead of the metal if the metal is the most reactive etc.

Eight resources on the thermal decomposition of the group 1 and 2 nitrates and carbonates. The first resource is a differentiated worksheet with the questions designed around the style of AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam papers and test students on every aspect of the topic including the reactions, observations, trends, theory of charge density/polarisation and finishes with a few questions on how we measure it experimentally. I looked at exam papers from all three exam boards when designing this resource so that it provides comprehensive coverage for my students. Answers are included. There is also a resource which goes through the qualitative observations associated with thermal decomposition of the carbonates and nitrates (what’s observed e.g limewater goes cloudy, brown gas of Nitrogen dioxide etc). I have also included a spider diagram of the reactions/observations and Power Points which explain the science behind it. There is then a hexagon activity and a challenge grid, both designed at stretching & challenging the students.

A knowledge organiser on the A-level chemistry practical “preparation of 2-chloro-2-methylpropane” which is one of the** required practicals for A-Level Chemistry**. The knowledge organiser includes the method, apparatus diagram and physical data (density, boiling point etc). It then includes information on each stage of the process, washing, drying and redistillation. I use it in my lessons to go through the procedure in greater depth and then students refer to this when practising questions.

An AQA Physics GCSE knowledge organiser on the P2 topic “Particles at work: Electric circuits”. contains information on current and charge, potential difference and resistance, component characteristics, IV characteristics graphs, series and parallel circuits. Relevant for the new 2016 specification.

Two activities to go with the GCSE Chemistry required practical “Making a soluble salt”. The first is a hexagon challenge activity in which students have to make connections between the apparatus used and method. Is an activity that promotes stretch and challenge. The second is a cut and stick which requires students to correctly label the apparatus in the correct order.

A set of Mass Spectra cards suitable for the new 2015 A-Level chemistry syllabus. Students complete each card, identifying the peaks and answering the questions. Cards include compounds of butane, propanoic acid, bromine, bromoethane and 3-methyl-2-butanone. Resource provided in both Power Point and PDF format with answers included.
