Decimals - Level 1 Maths Functional Skills

This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Level 1 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, AQA, Highfield Qualifications, NOCN, Open Awards). It contains an age-appropriate, 175-slide PowerPoint lesson and a 60-page workbook on decimals.

These resources will help pupils to achieve these learning outcomes:

read, write, order and compare decimals up to three decimal places
add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals up to two decimal places
approximate by rounding to a whole number or to one or two decimal places
use decimals to solve real-life number problems

Workbook

The 60-page workbook contains 28 explanation pages, 28 worksheets, 3 progress checks and a certificate of achievement. It is provided in PDF format and an editable PowerPoint version to enable editing of the resource. It can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.

PowerPoint Lesson

The editable, 175-slide PowerPoint lesson clearly explains how to read, write, order and use decimals in calculations. It contains numerous examples and many opportunities for pupils to develop their decimals skills. The PowerPoint also links to several videos on reading and writing decimals; the addition, subtraction, multiplication of decimals, rounding decimals to the nearest whole number and to two decimal places and decimal exam questions. It is an ideal resource to introduce the decimal component of the Level 1 specification and for revision purposes.
