Add excitement to your ratio lessons with this high-engagement Defuse the Bomb – Ratio Challenge, perfect for KS2, KS3, GCSE Foundation recap, intervention groups or end-of-lesson problem-solving. Pupils must answer 10 ratio questions correctly to identify the order in which to cut the coloured wires on the illustrated bomb (page 1). Each colour corresponds to a number in the answer–wire table, and pupils follow their calculated answers to uncover the wire sequence needed to “defuse” the bomb.

This activity is ideal for maths mysteries, paired challenges, escape-room style lessons, starters or fun Friday tasks. It reinforces ratio fluency while promoting reasoning, accuracy and teamwork.
