This product relates to tens and ones subtraction borrowing ten and regrouping in a column/vertical format. You can use this resource as review and/or give to students for homework.

It is also ideal for small group work for students who find subtraction with borrowing challenging.

Prior Knowledge: Students will have already been introduced to subtraction, splitting or partitioning numbers into tens and ones and counting backwards and forwards by tens. I have included step by step notes on borrowing/group which you can use with manipulatives.

Content:

  • 2 Sets of Information Sheets A to E (Option to laminate)
  • Write and Solve Column Subtraction Worksheets A to C
  • Subtract 1-digit from 2-digits (Borrowing/Regrouping) Worksheets (4 pages)
  • Double Digits Column Subtraction (Borrowing/Regrouping) (5 pages)
  • Subtraction word problems (9 questions)
  • Answer Sheets
  • Blank tens and ones column format for practical work
  • Write and Solve Column Subtraction Equations – A to C

Worksheet A shows how to write horizontal subtraction sums/equations as column subtraction. There are two tasks:

  1. Complete the ready-made tens/ones columns by copying the horizontal equations 2-digit and 1-digit sums and solving – Worksheet B

  2. Complete the ready-made tens/ones columns by copying the double digit subtraction sums and solving – Worksheet C

Some students may still find subtraction with regrouping challenging, and so I have included a blank column format with space to show a visual model of the sum, which you can laminate for use with a dry-wipe pen.
