I have been a German and English teacher for more than 12 years now. And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. All of my resources have been tested in class and will be updated regularly. Please rate my resources to help me build a reputation among millions of resources. Thanks for working with me ☺️ Cindy ❤️ Please see my other resources, too: [https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/CindyKuehne]

One of my personal favourites! Have a reading text in the box. In 2 teams, pupils choose a word to find in the text. The pupils don’t know what each word is worth. Click on the word they have chosen when they have correctly identified it in the text and their score will be revealed. The winning team is the team with the highest score once all words have been found in the text. 3 slides with different scores.

End translations template

End translations template

Using the template on the slides, show one sentence at a time on the board. At the end, type in the three boxes three possible answers, but make them obscure. Pupils vote on the ending they want (A, B or C). They then race to translate the sentence on their mini boards.

Dice rolling paragraph template

Dice rolling paragraph template

Pupils work in pairs to produce a paragraph on any given topic. They take it in turns to roll the dice. The phrase corresponding to their number is the one they have to use. When they’ve completed it, they then learn it. Good practice for learning to learn! They must also check that the phrase makes sense. If it doesn’t (incorrect tense, etc.), they must roll again. It’s a good idea to print this off as well.

Question Matrix for MFL

Question Matrix for MFL

Get your students to create their own questions - ideal resource for the new GCSE. Students use the matrix to create their own questions about a picture stimuli. The example here is in German but it would be a matter of minutes to change the question words and verbs to French or Spanish. Give the students a picture and get them to work in groups on creating a set of questions to use in interview with each other. A timeless resource which can be used again and again with different picture stimuli. The resource attached is from a CPD session for a network meeting but there is a PPT attached which could be used to support explanation with students. Could also be used for A level.
