American Money Slang Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Finance

American Money Slang Wordsearch Sheet Starter Activity Keywords Cover Finance

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet of keywords on the theme of ‘American Money Slang’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Business Studies Blockbusters

Business Studies Blockbusters

This is a Revision tool based on the old Blockbusters game format with a gameboard that can be customised with your own questions and can be used as a whole class revision resource or in pairs on their own computers. The player selects the hexagon and the question automatically appears at the bottom of the screen. The answer can be revealed by clicking the “Reveal Answer” button. The hexagon can then be turned blue or white depending on who won the hexagon or black if they got it wrong. The gameboard is currently loaded with GCSE revision business-related questions but can be changed by clicking on the “Questions” sheet and changing the information. After updating the Questions and Answers, click “Reset Gameboard” to rebuild the gameboard with your new questions and answers. If you have answers starting with the same letter then you can enter two letters to differentiate your answers. This opens the game to more possibilities. Note: This excel spreadsheet uses macros in order to work. Please enable them upon loading the spreadsheet.

Inspired By.... Janesville: An American Story

Inspired By.... Janesville: An American Story

Janesville: An American Story, by Amy Goldstein. 2017. The 2017 Business Book of the Year. It tells the story of Janesville, Wisconsin, home of a large GM car factory – until it closed in 2008. This is the story of what happened next. To understand modern America, you need to understand Janesville. Teaching as I do mostly foreign children the view from outside is that America is still a land of wealth and opportunity. To see its people, react and vote, in a manner that suggests otherwise is deeply puzzling. Outside the country the US voter’s desperation for change looks merely like ignorance and hatred for everyone else. Outsiders need to understand that large parts of this once mighty nation have essentially been gutted thanks to globalisation and technological change. This lesson hopes to address that need. With a strong focus on EAL needs and vocabulary it tries to tell the story of the negatives of globalisation. It is part of a wider mini-SOW on Globalisation I have made especially for EAL students. I’d highly recommend teaching this lesson in the context of the wider SOW so students get a real appreciation of the larger forces at work. Hope it helps. See more at www.wolseyacademy.com
