How & why do Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhorr Divas on Diwali?

How & why do Sikhs celebrate Bandi Chhorr Divas on Diwali?

Stand alone 1 hour lesson aimed as Y6 to Y8. First half looks at the story behind the Bandi Chhor festival and the second half looks at how Sikhs celebrate it. Can also be used in conjunction with "What is the story behind Bandi Chhor" All tasks are reviewed and progress is checked and assessed at 4 key point within the lesson and linked to levels and / or effort. Plenty of LOTS & HOTS and green pen reflection action. Pupils choose the main tasks they do and the level at which they do them. Great lesson to help pupils understand why Sikhs celebrate Diwali even though it is a Hindu festival. Able pupils are encouraged to compare Bandi Chhor to other religious festivals such as Diwali, Hanukkah, Eid & Christmas (Depending on previous learning) Also encouraged to compare to secular events such as the Holocaust & Prisoner Awareness day. Please review, I cannot improve without feedback.

The whole lesson including plenty of peer & self assessment with LOTS & HOTS and green pen reflection. The aim of the lesson is for pupils to understand why Sikhs celebrate Diwali but why Sikhs call it Bandi Chhor divas (Prisoner release day). The lesson takes them through the story and enables them to identify themes in common with Diwali, Christmas, Hannukah such as good & evil. Can be easily linked to the Holocaust and Black history month through questioning and extending the activities. The next lesson looks and how Sikhs celebrate Diwali. 114 Punjabi Writing Worksheets For Writing Practice + 31 Different Ways Of Using Flashcards In Class

114 Punjabi Writing Worksheets For Writing Practice + 31 Different Ways Of Using Flashcards In Class

Lots of my users have asked if I can suggest ways they can use these language flashcards effectively in the classroom, and so I have added an additional 31 page teaching guide on using them. I hope you like them. ***** Please note - these resources provide visual prompts and support to the students, not direct language instruction ************** Welcome to the 'Let’s Write in Punjabi!' pack. There are lots of ways of using this teaching pack. It could be used as writing assessment for students learning Punjabi. The students could write about a topic in Punjabi before starting a unit, and then write again about the topic, using the second worksheet at the end of the topic to see how much they have progressed. It could also be used as an introduction to guided writing. Students can write sentences as a class and share the sentences together and they can then write them on their own. Alternatively, students could work in pairs - one student dictates to the other what to write down about what they see in the picture. These pages could also be used to write different stories, using the pictures as a stimulus.
